Last weekend was a big weekend for Bryson Scott and Basil Smotherman. Though it did not go as they hoped our boys still played some really impressive ball.
Bryson Scott: Scott played 2 big games and unfortunately lost both of them. On friday he lost to 3A #8 Fort Wayne Concordia but scored 25 points, and then lost to 4A #5 Pike but scored 30 points and grabbed 15 rebounds. On a court filled with D1 talent, Bryson clearly emerged as the best on the floor. Those 2 games move Bryson to 1875 career points and into the top 80 in Indiana High School Career Scoring Records. He has now passed Greg Oden and our very own beloved E'twaun Moore. Scott still has 3 games left in the regular season and will hopefully make a deep tournament run and i bet he ends up in the top 40 in career points. Bryson and brother Brenton are a great pair of guards but they need just a little more help from their team to win those tough games.
Basil Smotherman: Basil had the tougher weekend and came out like a champ. On Friday he faced 4A #1 Carmel and scored 18 points but with the sharp shooting of Carmel his team fell but only by 5 points. The real exciting game came the next day when Basil faced friend Zak Irvin and 4A #2 Hamilton Southeastern. Irvin is the frontrunner for Indiana Mr. Basketball and one of the best players in the 2013 class, but Basil apparently didnt get the memo that he (Basil) is still unranked, which NEEDS to be changed. Though Irvin did not disappoint by scoring 31 points, Basil played just as well by scoring 27 points, getting several monster dunks, and pulling off the win, not to mention passing the 1000 career point marker and now has 1012 career points.
Our guys are playing fantastic and i cant wait for them to get on campus. I first thought that Basil would redshirt next year but with the way he has been playing along with his strength and athleticism I would say that he might even get big minutes next year. Bryson obviously wont redshirt and we need Kendall to be our perimeter guy so im not sure if there will be a redshirt next year, just a thought, not sure though.
