2014 Purdue Football Recruiting: Martesse Patterson

Pat Lovell-USA TODAY Sports

Purdue picks up a big get at a position of major need.

As we know, offensive line is a major area of need for the 2014 recruiting class. That need got small on Sunday as Purdue picked up its 14th commitment of the year in Martesse Patterson, a 6'3", 310 player that projects as an offensive guard in college. Patterson is from Columbus, Ohio and hales from Marion Franklin High School.

As far as ratings, Patterson is a 2- star according to Rivals and a three-star according to both Scout and ESPN. In terms of offers Patterson had ones from Cincinnati, Illinois, Indiana, and Kentucky, but Ohio State, Michigan State, Missouri, and Michigan were showing some interest.

What I like about Patterson is that he plays with a self-professed mean streak:

"They said offensive guard, offensive tackle, center, whatever," the Columbus (Ohio) Marion Franklin lineman said.

"They like that I'm big and athletic and play with a mean streak."

That is what Purdue needs right now. The offensive line this past season was way too passive and it showed with a complete lack of a running game and no ability to protect the quarterback.

Now, for some video:

I think we got a good one here. As bad as Purdue was along the line last year he could play immediately. If he is good enough to do so, welcome aboard!
