I am a small business owner and though I have employees the buck stops with me. In other words, if I don't get it done I don't get paid, we don't eat, and my employees don't either. I can blame the economy, the government, the competition, my employees, my customers, whoever, but at the end of the day it is up to me as the leader to make sure it happens which brings me to my point.
What would you do if you were Darrel Hazell? A Div 1 football program is obviously not a one man operation just as my business isn't but both require a strong leader. I have fired employees in the past and won't hesitate to do so again in the future if that is what I need to do to insure the health of my business and I also know what it means to sometimes make a symbolic gesture to investors to signal to them that the buck stops with me.
What I am saying is there is an entire coaching staff who is responsible for this product, not just the head coach, though the buck stops with the skipper. As I posted on another thread if I were Hazell I would fire John Shoop after today's dismal offensive showing and personally assume his duties for the Bucket game to show the stakeholders that the buck stops with me. The defense is also terrible and that is a more difficult call but Shoop's performance today was incompetent. I think if Hazell did similar to what I am suggesting he would regain a lot of lost goodwill.
