Well, I was certainly delusional on my over-rampant optimism that somehow Purdue would win Saturday. But for what it's worth here's a post about the experience. 1) Got to the game about a half-hour before kickoff with my daughter and watched the players come out. 2) Got choked up a bit during the playing of the Purdue Hymn. 3) My tix are in the south endzone. After many games there, I'm beginning to wonder if that location is a good idea anymore. Around alot of Nebraska fans. Some were obnoxious. But most were decent. Certainly not as bad as Michigan or OSU fans. 4) Beatdown commences. I get tired quickly of hearing the chant "Goooo Big Reeed". Really shocked at how flat the offense seemed to be on the first series. 5) An upset Purdue fan gets escorted by the Police out of our section. Second game in a row that's happened. No opposing fans removed. Hmmmm. Nebraska up 14-0. 6) Only head scratcher of the day for me occurs. When we obviously can't run the ball, but put Cottom in for two plays. He runs like a beast, and believe me Nebraska had a hard time putting him down. Two plays later it's back to outside north/south type stuff with either hunt or dawkins. I don't get this one. at all. 7) Fast forward to end of game. finally get Etling-to-Yancy play I've been waiting for all day. Standing by the South Endzone gate. Nebraska fan yells down at us- 'See you gave up too early'. 8) Got to meet Brandon Cottom's dad during the closing minute of the game. I went ahead and asked him if he knew why Brandon wasn't playing more. He told me, he has no idea why Brandon isn't playing more. I asked if he had gotten in some sort of trouble with Hazell? And his dad answered, "if he has, he hasn't told me about it." His dad was really nice. 9) Remaining Husker fans applaud Purdue as they leave the field of play. Never seen an opponents fans do that before. Never in a million years would Michigan or OSU fans do that. That's class. I was not liking them early, but have respect for them after witnessing that. 10) Saw Morgan follow the players into the locker room after the game. Not sure if there is any significance to that. 11) Stuck around to take in the volleyball match against Northwestern. Our girls played hard but lost a heartbreaker in the fifth set. Sad for them to lose, but NW played hard too and earned the win. I'm really glad we stayed for the match. One final thought. Back to Cottom. I just don't get why he isn't playing, unless he's hurt, which doesn't appear to be the case. He was the one and only player on offense that had the Husker defenders back on their heals. I've not questioned Hazell or Shoop up to this point. But I really question this lack of use of 25. He goes in puts some hurt on the Huskers for two plays and then he's out. Nobody else came close to doing that. Hunt and Dawkins were running for their lives. Hunt on sideline plays a couple times looked like he was shying away from contact. And of course the other one fumbled. The failure to establish any running game at this point has to be a concern. Defense was outmanned, yet again. But they fought and played very hard. Again, they just wore out.
