2014 Purdue Football Recruiting: Week 6 HS Results

Joe Robbins

Here is the wrap up of the sixth week of high school football for Purdue's 2014 commitments.

Yesterday was a busy day for Purdue news with a new basketball commitment and the news concerning B.J. Knauf and Jordan Woods. It is probably safe to say that Knauf and Woods will be sitting for awhile after their unauthorized shopping spree at Kohl's in the Tippecanoe Mall. Their screwups could mean immediate playing time for some incoming players.

With that in mind, here is what Purdue's commitments did last week for their high school teams.

Gelen Robinson - Lake Central HS, IN - DE/LB - Beat Michigan City 24-10 - Robinson continues to lead a stout defense as Lake Central moved to 5-1 with its fifth straight victory. The stats for Robinson were not available, but the defense scored a safety in this one and has only given up 25 points in the last five games after giving up 27 in the season opening loss to Munster.

Denzel Ward - Simeon HS, Chicago, IL - OT - Beat Curie 42-0 - This was another game that had very little on it in terms of reporting, but Ward obviously had a big night when his team had 42 points on offense and the defense pitched a shutout.

Drue Tranquill - Carroll HS, Ft. Wayne, IN - DB/LB - Beat Bellmont 55-7 - Tranquill's team ended a minor two-game losing streak in big fashion by rolling over Bellmont. Tranquill has to see the need Purdue has defensively from the last two games along with Robinson. Tranquill got the job done offensively with 193 yards rushing and four touchdowns on only six attempts. Carroll is now 4-2.

David Blough - Creekview HS, Carrollton, TX - QB - Lost 13-0 to West Mesquite - Blough has to be most interested in where the QB battle stands. If Danny Etling seizes the starting job and holds off Austin Appleby, Blough knows he will be sitting for at least the next two seasons while Etling is the starter. In one of those seasons he can redshirt, at least. If Etling blows up and goes to the NFL early a redshirt sophomore Blough could battle redshirt senior Appleby for the 2016 starting job.

Blough struggled in this one. He was 9 of 19 for 113 yards as his offense was shutout. He did have a 53-yard scramble in the loss.

Austin McGehee - Pine Bluff, AR HS - P - Beat Arkansas 28-13 - I could only find a score for this one, but McGehee also serves as the placekicker and probably hit on four extra points.

Gregory Phillips - Arabia Mountain HS, Lithonia, GA - WR - Lost 20-6 to Martin Luther King - Arabia Mountian falls to 2-3 on the season a tough loss to a team within their region. The stats for Phillips were not listed in the game wrap.

Kirk Barron - Marian HS, Mishawaka, IN - OL - Lost 42-21 to South Bend St. Joseph - Marian falls to South bend St. Joseph in the shadow of Notre Dame n what they call the Holy War in northern Indiana. Barron blocked for 281 yards on the ground for Marian, who fell to 4-2 with the loss.

Trae Hart - First Baptist Academy, Dallas, TX - WR - Beat Pittsburg 51-42 - This was the lowest scoring game for FBA, who is averaging over 60 points per game and is 4-0. I couldn't find stats again, but here is the final line score at least.
