The field is now set for the 2012 Big Ten baseball Tournament at Huntington Bank Park in Columbus, OH. By virtue of being the regular season champion, Purdue (41-12, 17-7) has earned the No. 1 seed and will play at approximately 7pm against the lowest seed of the first round winners on Wednesday. All games will be televised on Big Ten Network.
Indiana (30-26, 16-8) earned the No. 2 seed and the other first round bye. The Hoosiers will play the highest seed of Wednesday's winners.
The tournament gets underway at 12:05pm on Wednesday when No. 4 seed Nebraska (33-21, 14-10) plays No. 5 seed Michigan State (35-19, 13-11). The Spartans and Cornhuskers have very slight at large changes to make the NCAA Tournament, but both would do themselves a favor by winning the automatic bid.
Game two on Wednesday will have No. 3 seed Penn State (29-25, 15-9) playing No. 6 seed Ohio State (31-25, 11-13). The Buckeyes grabbed the last spot by virtue of a tiebreaker over Minnesota and Illinois.
The full schedule is here, and as long as Purdue avoids going 0-2 I think they are still a safe bet to host a regional despite losing the last two games vs. Iowa.
