With everyone in the tournament playing on neutral courts - with tops seeds at worst having a virtual home game - the NCAA Tournament comes down to matchups. Can VCU make another deep run? How much damage can Ohio State do? Will Coach K take another team to the Final Four?
It's all about matchups.
If you're anything like me, you've probably filled out a dozen or so brackets by now. Are you seeing what I'm seeing? I think there are some great First round (Round of 64) matchups and potential later round matchups. I usually find it entertaining to pick the games that will go to the wire. Picking the winner may be a toss-up. But I can definitely tell you that there are some great battles brewing.
Here are mine:
Purdue vs. St. Mary's - First and foremost. I think the Gaels will put our streak in jeopardy.
Xavier vs. Notre Dame - ND has been playing some great basketball as of late, but I've got a feeling that X will test them.
Wichita State vs. VCU - Mid-major battle! My gut tells me that VCU is a shell of what they were last year, but everyone thought that of Butler last year too.
Iowa St. vs. Uconn - yeah, it's an 8/9 game, so it should be even. But I think this is the most even of them all.
Kentucky vs. Indiana - this discussion has to start with this possible Sweet 16 matchup. I've got a feeling that with more on the line, KY takes it.
Duke vs. ND - ND could be battered and bruised (literally) after the Xavier game, but I'd look forward to this one in the Round of 32. Duke is not invincible, but still super talented.
FSU vs. Cincy - Two teams peaking at the right time
