Brent Yarina of BTN posed an interesting question. If all players had to stay 4 years, what would be the best team you could put on the court? I decided to go a different way with this.
Dating back to 2000, what would be your all decade team? Starting lineup matters, which means positions must match up. After the jump, I'll give you mine and the explanation
PF: Carl Landry
SF: Brian Cardinal
SG: E'Twaun Moore
PG: Kenny Lowe
If you can think of a better center than Johnson since 2000, go ahead and play him. I can't find one. Power forward is easily Landry, unless you would want to play small. Then you could move Cardinal to the 4 and Hummel to the 3 or vice versa.
I have to start Cardinal over Hummel, simply for grit and defense. With the lineup I have, I don't need another scorer. I need the man that is linked to the Purdue Way.
Shooting guard goes to Smooge. David Teague could be argued, but Moore was healthier and had more success.
For the point, I'm going with Kenny Lowe. I don't remember a ton from him, but he was a heck of a player. Willie Deane was also under consideration.
There you have it. This team would be pretty damn good. Lots of scoring, Johnson patrolling the paint, and Cardinal doing all the nitty gritty.
What would your team look like? Could it beat mine?
