Either You're In Or You're Out

The common phrases on this site the last 24 hours have been NIT bound, bad officiating, talent levels and heart. Quite frankly I am disappointed in anyone who calls themselves a fan and is saying that the season is over. I checked this morning and I still saw 8 games left plus the B1G tourney. This season is FAR from over.

I was in the paint crew until that buzzer sounded, imploring our guys to fight and not give up. The people who left sicken me, I also heard people cheering about Watford getting hurt and hoping he tore is ACL. For those people I have no respect, none. Am I angry that we lost, HELL YES I AM, but I am never going to cheer for someone getting hurt even if it is IU.

Yes, this loss hurts, but its not the end of our season. Maybe that is just me but until every second of every game this season, I will be screaming my ass off, Yelling MOVE! right along with CMP. Cheering for the hustle and scrappyness we show. I don't want to see anymore posts about how frustrating this is or about any other issues. I love this team and will never give up hope! There is still plenty of time to make the big dance. Now more than ever does this team need us and we need to show them we support them 110%. This is God's country! this is Purdue University! I am a Boilermaker and together we attack! Hail Purdue!

never had a doubt of giving up.

BTW, Miami is winning at Duke right now. That win could get A LOT better soon

OK, thank God Miami pull it off

But still, why the stupid guards don’t throw the ball in to the big man (who was having like a 26-10 game and no Dukies can stop him) and instead keep driving and missing or getting blocked or turning it over is beyond me. If we have a low post presence like that, I say throw the damn ball to him every single time! Even if he doesn’t score he can still pass it out to open shooters.

We're going to be just fine.

If we make the tourney, then great! If we make the NIT, we’ll have more motivation and fire to come back next year and make the tournament. We might also make a nice run and have experience for the next time we make the tourney.

Not all is lost. It’s a down year talent-wise, and we knew that going in. However, there are many more important things to learn than simply winning a few games.

Expectations should have been?....

I’m sorry, but for the rest of Painter’s career, we should expect nothing less of making the tournament.

The NIT should be viewed as a disappointment, regardless of the year

Sorry, this sounds just like George W. Bush

I appreciate loyal fan like you, and I was just over at the other thread calling out those guys who claimed how right they had been ALL YEAR LONG that Purdue is a NIT team. Even if we lose the next 9 games I’ll still watch all of them and cheer for my favorite team.

But I am afraid a post like this is just gonna further divide the fan base. I can already hear folks saying “Oh, I can’t post anything negative here” or “Keep the blinders on. You are not seeing reality.” Now I personally think that many of those are non-constructive, some idiotic, and many are just baseless venting without any merit. Yet, I’d defend their rights to voice their opinion, especially on occasions some criticism are actually warranted. (I just wish that at times, they’ll actually put money where their mouth is and not just making outrageous claims but refused to back them up when challenged. If you are calling the sky is falling, well, back it up!)

There is a difference

There is being negative because we’re struggling greatly, then there are people saying Painter doesn’t deserve his contract and we have no hope the rest of the way. I prefer to take t one game at a time, see what it takes to win each game, and see what happens.

As long as there is a chance to make the tourney, and we will have a chance until we’re eliminated from the Big Ten Tourney, I am going to believe it is possible we can get in and do some damage. I have to look at it that way.

here, here

If I’m being honest, I don’t believe (as of right now) that this team makes the tourney, but games aren’t played on paper. I know the guys have what it takes and seeing the emotion clearly evident on the players’ faces I know they want it as bad as the fans.

But even if the team were to collapse and lose every game from here on out the true fans will remain. Sure, we might be critical, even negative but we’re not going anywhere. Let the fairweather guys flake off to some other team and leave the rest of us to carry on.

Absolutely agree

Until the committee made the announcement (or we lost the next 9 games), I believe there is still a chance to make the Tournament.

I never forget the lesson from street basketball. No matter what the opponent, I have to believe in my guts that I can win. Doesn’t mean I will definitely win, but I have to believe in every vein of my body that if I play to the best of my ability and the opponent relaxes, there is a chance, however small, that I can win. That way, I usually play my best, and win or lose, I can live with it.

The same as fan. Until proven mathematically impossible, I keep believing that there is a chance (if all the stars miraculous align) that we can pull it off. Doesn’t mean it is easy or likely, but I just can’t honestly say that I “support” my team if I give up on them while there is still a chance to make it.

Being Positive

I still am going to cheer my butt off for this team. You never know if one of our guys gets hot we may win a game we are not expected to which could vault us into the NCAA tournament. I mean even though it is near impossible if we beat o$u tuesday we will almost automatically qualify. So lets stop being negative and just be behind our guys and hope they can pull out a couple of big W’s.

I don't believe

Anyone needs to be lectured on how to be a Purdue fan. This has never been a trendy, bandwagon team to follow. I think people are a little stunned that they can’t will themselves to victory at home against the better teams. Also, there doesn’t seem to be a specific gameplan to out-plan these opponents. HOPE is a bad strategy. Was that our strategy w Carroll and Sandi on Zeller? Awful. It almost looked as if Hummel was more effective when he was on him. Why not have him JUST play D on Zeller? Something outside the box to create a better matchup. Anyhow, its OK to have higher expectations for your team. One could argue that playing 2 or 3 games in the NIT may be more beneficial to the team than getting knocked out early in the NCAA. That doesn’t mean I have given up on the team.
