Tom Cloverdale
How is Tom Cloverdale or DJ White not on this list? They are much more hate-able than Jordy Hulls.
Is that Tom Coverdale?
Or the guy that ate him?

Hulls
He’s the whiny little cheap shot specialist guard that runs around and shoots threes. I hate guys like that (and yes, I am aware we have Ryne Smith in a very similar role)

What makes him so annoying...
Is the fact that he has lived in Bloomington his whole life. UGH. See the world, you ignorant redneck hillbilly! Of course that could explain his play outside of Assembly Hall.
Not hated... more like pitied!!
That horrible BTN commercial he is on. I still can’t get over how much he reminds me of a hobbit. He can hit shots… but until one of these teams beat us, none of the players on the current team can I consider hating. So of the choices I have to go with Recker- but I ended up loving him since he left IU! I hated way more players when the rivalry was good- pre-2000s.
dane fife
when dane fife was at IU my hate for him burned like the fires of a thousand suns. at least with some guys, like cheaney or henderson, you could hate them b/c of the rivalry, but appreciate their games from a strict basketball sense. there was nothing i appreciated about dane fife.

Boiler up!
Dane Fife is a joke...
Ever since it became known that he couldn’t get his own action on campus and had to have Coverdale’s GF service him! Pathetic!
What do you think the results of a poll with the same question to IU fans about Purdue would be?
Kramer in a landslide?
Was it just me, or would we have all thought Kramer was a huge tool had he not played for Purdue.
I think it’s always fun to pick out those players on your own team. Like Tmill said earlier, Ryne Smith fits that role very well now.
exactly.
See Craft, Aaron at Ohio State. I can’t stand him, but at Purdue he’s a crowd favorite.

+100
I can’t stand Aaron Craft. But I know that if he was wearing black and gold, he’d be my favorite player on the team.
It's those hustle guys that get in your face on defense
You either love them or love to hate them. They’re either hard nosed or just plain annoying depending on your rooting interest.
Smith and Hulls have similar positions on their respective teams
but Smith isn’t anywhere near the whiny little bitch that is Hulls
We'd maybe want his mother thrown out of our arena too
(In fact, I think iu fans got upset at her.) She never gave up on cheering.
I’d say I guess we know where he got his persistence from, but his dad was pretty tough too IIRC.

his mother
is what made IU fans hate him. Seriously, someone only a son could love.

NU fans said the same thing at sippinonpurple
In fact the first game I watched over the internet was Lipscomb@Purdue. She featured prominently in the background of the announcing. I remember thinking “Who the hell is THAT?” and then one of you guys who knew got some good suspense-trolling in over her identity.
She quickly got known.

Cardinal
Not only did he have dirty old man tricks on the court but the fact that he looked so sloppy with knee pads and all with the receding hairline. Probably still my favorite Purdue character though.
I very much hate Ryne Smith.
He might win after it’s all said and done. But for now it’s gotta be Kramer. For the most part, however, I hate all Purdue players equally. Except for Brad Miller. He gets a pass because I loved him during the short time that he was a Pacer.

That's just wrong
How do you hate Robbie Hummel?
Seriously?
Reaction images? I got 'em
Senior All-American Alto Sax
because you guys love Robbie Hummel
honestly that’s the biggest reason

I remember seeing an article talking about how some guy didn't like hummel
For his, “Borderline dirty tactics.” I tried to watch and see if I could see anything, but I couldn’t
don't see what is unlikable about the guy except he plays basketball in West Lafayette

I totally see how you could hate RH.
Just like JJ last year. My two closest friends are IU fans and they liked JJ and E’twaun early but started to dislike them just because Purdue fans loved them so much. I think having respect for someone and liking them are two completely different things. I don’t think you’ll find one college basketball fan who doesn’t respect RH a lot, but that doesn’t mean they have to like him.
this is it more than anything
if you guys were so damn in love with JJ and Etwaun, I may have even rooted for them. It’s like when everyone is obsessed with IU so you choose to reject them no matter the details and root against them instead.

My parents are huge fans of OMHR....
and they still piss an moan about Brian Cardnial
Recker
I love that his final game in high school was a 23-point ass-whipping by my Kokomo Wildkats in the semi-state championship game.

Uwe Blab and Neil Reed...
are the hands down favorites for the all-time, face-for-radio IU squad. I wasn’t sure if I should boo or puke. Can someone find a good pic of Blab?
FUCK ERIC GORDON!
/former Illinois fan
Although he did give me my favorite rivalry game of all time….
"Hey Jay, what time is it?"

"AND IU STILL SUCKS!"
I hope you aren't a Pacer fan.
EJ may very well be a Pacer come next year.

I would very much welcome Gordon next year to the Pacers.
Growing up in Indiana and being only 2 years older than him, I associate him more with Indiana h.s. basketball than IU, although he had a very good year at IU.
Bulls fan, so FUCK ERIC GORDON twice.
The level of hate in Champaign’s Assembly Hall that night was epic.

Recker can't be in the list, he left!
He went to Iowa and pounded on IU. You can’t put him on the list. And are there no african american IU players? Alan Henderson, DJ White…
IU recruits Indiana
IU’s team demographics tend to match up with Indiana’s.

Gary, Fort Wayne, Indy, South Bend
There’s a significant black population in the state. They just don’t go to IU.
the five of them next year disagrees
and the seven current ones would like a word with you

For some reason, white players are easier to hate.
I’ve never figured it out, but just look at Duke as a prime example. Pretty much all of the players people can’t stand are white. I think Austin Rivers would break that chain, but he won’t be there long enough to get a deep hatred of him.
he's half white...
Same as Jared Jeffries.

I think it's funny that the options are all white guys
lol not trying to make a point or anything, just find it interesting
No Isiah Thomas? He's gotta be considered.
Cheap shot artist.
Took down the CBA.
Sexual harassment.
Lousy GM for the Knicks.
Overall snake oil salesman.
Steve Alford gets an honorable mention from me after I read some of BHGP’s posts on him.
He won a title for the Pistons and was a part fo the bad boys.
I love/hate him. Love the Pistons and the bad boys, hate that he went to IU.
No class Isiah
In a class move, flipped off the entire Mackey arena crowd during a game! I believe it was 1980 or 81.

Tipton
Is like ground zero for WT. He looks like he could have been kid rock’s character in Joe Dirt.

You're right about Tipton, I know it well being originally from Wabash County.
He looks like a mean inbred hillbilly.

ERIC GORDAN/Tom Cloverdale
Gordan made IU good during the dirty days and wasnt around long enough to be 100% hoosier. Tom is just ugly.
I actually like Hulls and respect him since he is from Bloomington and didnt get well recruited well. Basically a homegrown Lewjack
Tom Coverdale
Every time I see his face I get nauseous. Just a dirty, dirty player.
Boiler up, IU sucks.
If anyone was dirty during that time it was Dane.
He was especially good at stepping on feet.

Steve Alford
He was the player I remember most from my years at Purdue.
I root for Purdue and whoever plays IU and Notre Dame
There is was this ugly ass, redhead....
that had a torn-up shoulder that Dicky V couldn’t help gushing about. I couldn’t stand that guy because of Dicky V’s man-love.
Damon Bailey???
Did anyone mention Damon Bailey. He was well before my time of being a Purdue fan (so I don’t have a strong dislike for him) but I’ve got to believe there were more than a few people who had a strong dislike for Mr. Bailey.
I was thinking this too
His name came first to my mind. Don’t remember exactly why I dislike him though, not that I NEED a reason to hate an IU player.
by BoilerGOZ on Feb 3, 2012 10:00 AM EST via iPhone app up reply actions
Similar to Hulls...
As in he doesn’t live up to the hype and will spend the rest of his life listening to old rednecks talk about the good ole days 10 minutes from home. BTW, the character of Shooter in the movie Hoosiers was supposed to be a tragic character but I feel the state of Indiana is full of “Shooters”.
wouldn't Recker be considered
IU’s version of Kramer. They somewhat look similar. Reckers reddish brown hair works for IU just like Kramer has the black hair. Also I could totally see Kramer selling that charge also that Recker did…

If I was I.U. fan, I would despise
Brian Cardinal the most. It seemed like he spent a decade in West Layayette.
But the I.U. player I hated the most has to be Keith Smart, only after he hit that baseline jumper over Syracuse. Freakin’ Looser Nation!
Honarable mentions to: Isiah Thomas, Steve Alford, Dean Garrett, and Jay Edwards.
for a black player to hate....
How about AJ moye? Specifically for the Robbie Hummel/ Kramer love that I.U. Had for him. (Preface I’m black and used to enjoy A.J. & Jeff Newton play at IU… But I’m just adding to the list.

The only reason I hated AJ Moye...
Was the IU fans chanting that dang cheer all the time. He didn’t scare me much as a player. Then again, that is pretty much the only cheer IU fans have… “first name, last name” clap clap clap clap clap! They just said his more since his name had the optimal syllables to make the cheer sound decent.
similar to I dunno
Rob-bie Hum-mel???

Neither Moye nor Newton
Was good enough to hate. They are probably still surprised they played in a Nat’l Championship game. Talk about a forgettable season of college basketball.
Alan Henderson
Nobody cares about your fantasy baseball team
"We have the Cannon, the Bucket, the Little Caesar's Bowl trophies, and I'm pretty sure the Nation's Best Kick-Off Team Trophy as well to put in our trophy case" --Purdue Coach Danny Hope
Honestly...
All of them. If I had to pick, I’d probably say Jordan Hulls. I feel he’s just a whiny bitch on the court. Even though I’d probably love him if he was at Purdue, I would love to see him get a beat down of epic proportions.
I also love that E’Twaun denied Eric Gordon a State Championship during their senior year.

Maybe not an IU player, but...
I cannot stand John Shurna….i dont know what it is. Maybe something about his face. not to mention that atrocious shooting technique he has.
D Bailey
For those too young to know him, Damon Bailey was the supposed second coming of Larry Bird. As much as IU fans are beating off over next year’s class, it was ten times that for Damon Bailey going to IU. He was a little better than average as a college guard, but that didn’t matter. IU fans thought he was the greatest thing since Bob Knight. Hands down, a true Purdue’s fan most hated IU player should be Damon Bailey.

Most of that was because Knight famously visited him as an 8th grader
That’s common today (though still absurd in my book), but back then (1986 I think) it was unheard of.

and we all know how that turned out.

I would have voted for DB if that had been a choice
…only because he was so hyped before he ever played a minute. But does anyone remember March 1992? IU was ranked #4 in the country when they came to Mackey. They beat us like 41 points or something the first game of the series. We won 61-59, giving OSU the Big Ten championship and keeping IU from a #1 seed.
Coverdale or Bailey. Can't decide.
