Painter watches Wideman
After loosing Dawson to MSU I have been less than excited about big kids in the North. Matt Painter was spotted at Lake Central last night. A Purdue coach has been at his games at least 90% of the time. And it is usually Matty sound familiar. Wideman score 16 had 9 boards and 6 blocks . An ESPN super 60 He has offers from Purdue, Michigan, X, and MSU. At 6'8 and 245 he is your Big Body . If he has a favorite school he isn't saying .
AJ Hammons won to go to 38-0 final 100- 39 yep thats 61 points. AJ had 10 points 8 boards 7 blocks and 4 assist . The other coach said this team would beat most college teams.
Davis vs Simpson today ! They are coaching against each other in a youth league game today. Seem to be having fun with it bantering back and forth.
Anyone other than me worried Matty P. is putting in to much time on one recruit . He did the same with Dawson and we lost him.

As long as Painter has time to go after other recruits at the same time....
One of these recruiting epidodes will have to pan out I would hope. Hopefully neither of his parents went to Purdue, that way we have a chance of getting him :)
PT
If a big recruit watches any Purdue games this year, they should be able to see the need for an inside presence and it should scream immediate playing time. Hopefully that would be another factor to sway someone to Purdue. Maybe the one positive we can get out of a tough season down low.
Tell Amir Williams
The kid went to O$U and played 1 minute in the last game when he would have gotten A TON of minutes with us.
Anyone know
Is Wideman projected to be a 4 or a 5 at the next level? Body type sounds like a 5 but needs to grow a few inches preferably…..if a 4 can you imagine him and Hammons on the floor at the same time?
I have mixed feelings
On one hand, I do not want CMP to stop going after the best talent in the state. On the other, the more kids leave for somewhere else, the worse it looks. I hate, HATE, Indiana kids leaving the state to play somewhere else. I would rather see a five star, super stud kid go to school in bloomington than go to msu or o$u.

I would
If the Indiana kids do not become Boilermakers, I would rather see them at iu, nd, or Butler than anywhere else. I cannot be the only one who feels this way? I will say when they choose to go to north carolina, wake forest, or kentucky it doesn’t hurt Purdue as much as when they go to msu or o$u so I am not quite as upset.
I would rather they went out of the B1G all together if they don't go to Purdue
Cant stand IU, O$U or MSU
Don't get your hopes up.
CMP doesn’t win many (if any) of these battles when Izzo, Matta or Cal are in the game. One of these days he will but, for now, it remains a longshot. It really bothers me that we don’t have the northern part of Indiana locked up. Think about the talent we would have if we did.

Trust CMP
I think if we just trust Painter to do the best recruiting i am sure he has learned from past mistakes and will spend an adequate amount of time on Wideman. Also we were the first to offer him and in an article i found he said that it was important Painter had been there since the 8th grade.
Wideman
Has interest from MSU, UM, Purdue and Xavier but I’m pretty sure Purdue is the only one who has offered him yet. Also, ESPN has not released their Super 60 for the class of 2014 yet (just the Terrific 25, which Wideman isn’t on).
Wideman is intriguing because he’s so athletic; he runs the floor well, can finish in traffic and has great hands. The big question mark with him is his height. Right now he’s definitely a Center, but I don’t care how athletic you are, 6’7’’ isn’t going to cut it as a Center in the Big 10. If he’s not going to grow another 3-4 inches he’ll have to add a little bit more to his game so that he can slide over to the 4 spot. Also, some have questioned his motor and his diversity of post moves, but I wouldn’t be as worried about those. He’s only a sophomore so a diversity of post moves is a tough thing to expect him to have and the “motor” issue is pretty subjective. He’s a good prospect.

I've read that Wideman is considered the #6 prospect in the IN Class of 2014
So anyone knows about the Top 5? I know 2 of them committed to IU already, Lyle is a PG and I don’t think he’d want to play behind RJ and Bryson, so that leaves Ponidexter and Bluitt, and we’ve given both of them offer I think. Anyone has better info?
stay positive
MP.is gonna start getting on a roll. It only takes one recruit to turn it around look at zeller. I think scott and davis are them and hammonds going to be solid. If simpson basil can be a 4 look out

You've got it right on the money.
Seems like people are still whining about Gary Harris. Get over it people. These next two classes are looking great and we can build from there.

GO FOR IT!!!
I’m glad we went all in for Dawson even though it didn’t work out because M$U came out of nowhere. Look what he’s doing! He’s going to be an NBA guy and will be a 2 time AllBig Ten guy. If CMP thinks that Wideman could be great (Super 60 ) than we need to go ALL IN for him. I keep hearing about that one great guy (ie Zeller) for Purdue would get us going well than since we have NEVER had one under Painter maybe he thinks this could be the guy. I would give anything for a bruising big man
Purdue's had some pretty great players under Painter
No one who immediately came in NBA ready, or even after 2 seasons. I would say Etwaun/JJ/Hummel are the types of players I want Painter to get. Great players who will stay 3/4 years and are good NBA prospects.
You're kind of insulting Kramer, Hummel, Byrd, Johnson, Moore, among others.
Great players don’t have to be 5 star.
by Jackson Brunner on Feb 11, 2012 7:30 PM EST up reply actions
Moore and Johnson were both top 60 recruits.
The problem with that is, 4 and 5 star players inherently are more developed and talented. They get better and give better results. Developing a player a 3 star player into a great player in college is a lot more rare than a top 100 player becoming great (especially super 60 or top 25 recruits).
Robbie Hummel wasn't
and our team wasn’t the same without him.
by Jackson Brunner on Feb 12, 2012 1:14 AM EST up reply actions
Robbie Hummel was rated a 93 by ESPN
which is the line between “High Major Prospect” and High Major Minus Prospect"
High Major Prospect (94-96) – Player is a centerpiece of a high major program who starts three to four years.
High Major Minus Prospect (92-93) – Player has the potential to significantly contribute over four years.
-Contributing Writer at The Crimson Quarry.
I love Robbie, I do, but people here exagerate things so much with him.
Robbie was a good recruit. He was a 4 star and around the #75 mark for both ESPN and Rivals. He was the #51 recruit according to Scout. Hummel was not some underrated scrub player. He was a good recruit who had a lot of offers from a lot of good schools.
And yes I realize our team wasn’t the same. That had as much to do with our lack of depth at the forward position as it did Hummel’s play though. Losing JJ would have been a far worse blow the last two years, and Moore was arguably more important to the team with his inside-outside game and ability to defend.
Eh...
Hummel, Moore, and JJ were all exactly as good as each other in college IMO. You could ask 3 die hard Purdue fans who was the most important to the team when they were all healthy that junior year and you would have maybe gotten 3 different answers. However, Hummel’s game out of the 3 is the most dependent of having other good players around him. If JJ or Moore missed the year last year we would have been just as good, but if JJ or Moore were by themselves this year we would be better than we are right now.

Familiar with Wideman
My brother is on LC’s varsity team and a good friend of Wideman (comes over a lot, was actually over at my house for Thanksgiving) and my family and myself are always on him about going to Purdue, just cracking jokes. Every time I say something about him going to Purdue he always gets a huge grin on his face.
Yes I think he needs to get in better shape as he gets extremely tired quickly, but he told my family he is projected to grow another 3 to 4 inches. So senior year he will be, 6-10, 6-11 about 260, 270. He is a force in the paint and just dominates weaker bodies and is also a pretty damn good free throw shooter. I really honestly hope Painter snags him, but with GR3 going to Michigan, Wideman might want to go up there.
Thx for the inside scoop
Is he good friend w/GR3?
Seen him play once.
Wasn’t impressed at all. Obviously can’t judge off a 1 game, but I hope he’s the real deal if he comes to Purdue. Tired of striking out with big men.

Well our "big men" are kind of soft
Hammons is going to be different, so I will be interested to see how we fit him in. Wideman sounds like at worst he could be a good body to have off the bench, but he is more likely to become a top 2-3 big man in the conference.
