From what I've read on Twitter, H&R, and other places, it seems as if Purdue fans feel that the simple formula of FCS coach + Mustache= Danny Hope. That doesn't equate with me...mainly because Spack has experience at the B1G level and has, for the most part, succeeded.
Spack had some amazing defensive units in the Tiller era through 2004, sending quite a few guys to the NFL. Why can't he be our head coach? He seems to be winning at a much higher rate than Hope at the FCS level...and his progression by the year looks pretty good. The instant comparison seems a little rushed. People were angry that Burke passed over Spack in the first place...but suddenly, now that he's available, he's the worst option possible? Even when he's winning?
I'd definitely be okay with giving the guy a shot. There will be several coaches Purdue will interview, so we'll see what transpires.
