Why is it so hard to be excellent in both football and basketball

Our football is horrible and basketball is close to excellent. Looking around the country there are very few schools that excel at both and I don't understand why. Top 4 basketball schools in last 15 years Kentucky, Duke, North Carolina, and Kansas all are dreadful in fottball. Best football team like Alabama, LSU, Oregon etc are mediocre at basketball at best. In the Big Ten, only OSU has recently been good at both, Wisconsin good at fottball but in basketball they overachieve with Bo Ryan but don't excel and don't really have great players. MSU is close since D'Antonio came aboard but football is only above average but not great. Florida excelled in both for a few years but hasn't sustained it. So, the odds of Purdue excelling in both are close to zero based on my extensive statistical analysis (actually was thinking about this doing yard work. So the question is what are your reasonable!! expectations for Purdue basketball and football over a 10 year period. Here's mine - basketball 25 wins min every year, sweet 16 8/10 yrs, final 4 2 times, NC once Football 6-6 twice, 7-5 3 times, 8-4 3 times, 9-3 1 times, 10-2 once
