First I would like to say I was always first in CMP's corner. Unfortunelty I have to express concern over his coaching decesions of this year's team thus far. Does anyone else get the feeling that this is one of those seasons a coach looks back on and says, "I could of done better for these guys."
Point number one. It appears Painter is trying to figure out his line-ups during games. Any coach would tell you that is a no-no. Maybe a guy or two here and there to see how they blend, but not and entire new line change every few minutes. It also appears Painter is having anxiety over telling players they might not get minutes. Name one time in the history of college basketball when you've seen a coach make so many line-up changes in a resume game for the tourny. It is absurd to be roatating players at the rate CMP is. Players playing a few minutes at a time get no shooting rythme, let alone build zero game chemistry with each other.
Point number two. His mootion offense worked great with real leadership on the court, which he had the luxery of having the past 5 years. This season is different though. He has the talent but no on court leadership. The leadership will come with time, but for now CMP has to be the team leader on the court. How? Put set plays in there that gives your young athletic talent the best chance at showing their ability. Draw up some slashing to the bucket plays for your slashers Lawson, Davis, litte AJ ect. Draw up plays that gets your big AJ a chance to feed with consitently, and gets him to the foul line.
CMP can't figure this team out on the game court. He needs to show leadership by making the tough decisions for this young talented team in practice. Stop playing your walk-on just cause he knows the system. Maybe change your system for the team and salvage your season and NCAA tourny appearence streak. In the end I do believe this team is talented they just need leadership and a coach who knows how to change for them. This team should be 4-0, the talent is there. CMP needs to show up with a game plan from here on out. This young team can't make the right decesions just yet in the motion offense.
