What can we take away from the first three games, besides bad refs, inconsistent play, and terrible shooting? More than you'd think.
Last year the team started 4-1. This team looks like it will start 2-3; however, last years team almost started 2-3 as well. It took Ryne Smith nailing 8 threes to beat High Point by 2, and late Hummel heroics to beat Iona by one. That was a team led by three seniors who knew how to finish, this team is led by underclassmen who havent been in this position, and a team trying to find its identity. Just look at the stats.
Scoring:
'11: 79 pts/game '12: 72 pts/game
Shooting
'11: 44% 40% 3s 61% FTs '12: 42.5% 25% 3s 59 % FTs
Assists / Turnovers
'11 16/10 a game '12: 18/14 a game
Defense
'11: 66 pts/game '12: 70 pts/game
Rebounding:
First 5 games '11: +3 First 4 games '12: +22; '11 36/game '12 45/game
This team is not that different statistically from last years'. It just takes one or two guys stepping up and saying 'I am going to win us this game'. We know we possess the players to do it and the coach to get them there, just keep faith.
