Although I read H&R most every day, I rarely post. I'm one of those 50ish bastards that sit in comfy seats that everyone loves to hate. My son. who is a frosh at Purdue sat with me tonight at the game

I think we have a lot of really good individual players, but we have a ways to go as far as meshing as a team on both ends of the floor. Our defense was definitely not up to Painter standards and if Hammons wasn't in, we didn't rebound well. Two weaknesses that seem to be similar to last year.

I think the 3 Johnson's could be a very formidable back court in a few months. TJ was a stud on both ends. He is not Rick Mount but his shot and FT's are much improved. Ronnnie is as advertised and sees everything a step befor it happens. Not a great shooter but facilitates well. May struggle a bit in half court defense, but over all very solid. AJ hit some 3's, still sucked at the line and had good intensity on defense.

Hammons is a big kid who will help us right away. Has good offensive moves but just a bit slow in making them. Took exactly 4 seconds to block his first shot.

Davis does everything well and is a deceptively good athlete. Will be hard to keep on the bench.

Sandi is still Sandi as far as I am concerned, as is TC.

Lawson played with a lot of energy, but is still very raw with his skill set and his hands still aren't great. He did help the opposition off the floor a few times which was very sportsman like.

DJ didn't play a lot and I don't think he scored.

Simpson definitely is not in shape and redshirting may be in his best interest. Didn't do much of anything. Has a Big ten body though.

Hale showed a nice touch with his shot but doesn't block out well at all. Need him to rebound much better than he did.

Keep in mind this was an exhibition game, although the Falcons are a good team. There wasn't a lot of continuity as you might expect. Intensity definitely lacking at times and I heard Painter a few times yelling for the guys to play harder.

I suspect we may stub our toe a few times during the season due to our age but we do have some really good pieces. A lot will depend on how well RJ, Hammons, Davis and Hale grow up. I think TJ could have a breakout year.
