Free Throws

As Purdue fans, we are all awaiting 2 things right now, the firing of Coach Hope and the start of basketball season. Enough opinions have been shared on football so I wanted to shift attention towards basketball season. The area with this years team which I feel will be key to our success is free throw shooting. We vastly need to improve this area of the game from a year ago. As a team in 2011-12 we ranked among 290/344 D1 schools in Free throw % with 65.2% as a team. If we take Robbie out of the equation, the rest of the team only shot 61.4%! TJ's struggles at the line were well chronicled last year but he wasn't the only one who struggled. To me shooting lower than 75% from the line as a team is not acceptable. Last year if we had hit 75% of our FT's our average points would have gone up 1.8 from 71.8 to 73.6 points per game. The lowered expectations with this years teams make these extra 2 points per game even more crucial to collect. I hope CMP has been focusing on this aspect of the game with the whole team.

Below are the staggeringly low FT %'s from our returners from the 2011-2012 season

Byrd 76.0%

Sandi 61.1%

Tacos 57.1%

Little AJ 49.3%

TJ 43.5%

Lawson 34.6%

I don't have any info on the incoming freshman but I hope they can knock down their Ft's (Oldboiler do you have any stats for them?).
