Realistic Expectations

I think it's time to take a look at the remaining schedule and come to face with the reality that we will most likely finish with a losing record this year, which obviously means no bowl game. Here's my take on things.

Four of our last six games are on the road. I think we can reasonably shoot for going 2-2 in those games, losing at OSU and Iowa, but winning at Minnesota and Illinois. That puts us at 5-5.

Our 2 remaining home games against Penn State and Indiana are going to be really, really tricky. As it stands, I don't think we're capable of beating either team at the moment. Indiana isn't winning many games but they're putting up a fight against teams, which is something we haven't been able to do. I'm not sure if we can stop their offense enough to win against them. As for Penn State, they're turning out to be one of the better teams in the conference, and will be extremely difficult to beat, even at our place.

It's very depressing to look this far ahead and be so "doom-and-gloom", but I would be willing to bet we finish somewhere in the 5-7 or 4-8 range this year. It's shocking to say the least, but I think it's very probable.
