Once again, I respect MSU and Izzo for stuff like this. I love the way they play and of all the programs in college basketball, they are the one that causes me the most envy.

The Paint Crew says stupid stuff too. Complaining about a fan section after a 25-point loss really is extremely trivial

I don't understand the reasoning of heckling..

when you are completely shellacking the other team. Not that I approve of heckling at all, but when you’re a top 10 team handing it to a nonranked team, isn’t that a bit ridiculous to be taunting players? Student sections everywhere say stupid things, but it’s usually because the other teams players are showboating or just being jerks.

by bukowski_boiler on Jan 21, 2012 6:17 PM EST reply actions

no sometimes people are just stupid

but there isn’t any reason to highlight this in a blowout game. I admire Painter for fighting for his kids, but no one needs to make a big deal out of someone saying something stupid at a basketball game

by GreenBayBoilermaker on Jan 21, 2012 6:31 PM EST up reply actions

Addressing it immediately is making a big deal

But I think it’s important to do so it does not become a big deal later. Izzo wants to make sure once is more than enough.

Student sections can and should be clever. But there is a line.

Dang it Izzo

Will you please stop saying things that make me like you more. Aside from CMP I don’t think there is a coach in the league that I like more than him right now…

You wouldn't feel the same....

If you knew what happened with the Dawson recruitment. And this doesn’t help either.

Why would they want Hummel out of the game with an injury?

He was 0-11, figured they would want him out there more!

Guys = It's an ACT!

Izzo isn’t going to do anything, unless it is lipservice. If we think he’s a cheater, why would you respect him? Face it, u guys have been wrong about MSU and Izzo. They’re trash.

Respect Izzo and MSU for.....

-hiring away Dane Fife after he already begun working on Purdue’s staff?
-using that hire of Fife to get Brandon Wood?
-buying Brandon Dawson through paying for unofficial visits and doing financial favors for his handlers?
-sweeping the rapes by Appling and Payne under the rug?

There is a stench coming from East Lansing

Fife was working on Purdue’s staff? Link please.

by SpartanBoiler on Jan 22, 2012 12:48 PM EST up reply actions

How about a link for any of those items

This guy’s awesome.

Tonight's going to be a good night.

IPFW =

Indiana-Purdue Ft. Wayne. Does that count as on Purdue’s staff? That’s kind of in the extended family.

by MSUDersh on Jan 22, 2012 3:00 PM EST via mobile up reply actions

Wait he also played at

And coached for Indiana, Purdue’s arch-rival. Maybe he meant Dane’s brother Dugan? He went to U-M, not sure what he did post-playing career, perhaps he was involved with Purdue.

by MSUDersh on Jan 22, 2012 3:05 PM EST via mobile up reply actions

Yes, a link, that's a good one.....

Fife took the Purdue job, reported to West Lafayette, and was on Painter’s staff for a couple weeks. He attended player development meetings, recruiting strategy meetings, and had full, 100% access to all things Purdue Basketball during that time. Then he promptly bolted for East Lansing, taking all his Purdue insider info with him. If somebody wanted to connect the dots, Purdue was also talking to Brandon Wood at about the same time.

This was a big reason for Painter pursuing higher salaries for assistant coaches. Behold the power of Tom Izzo.

Ever Grateful. Ever True.

by PurdueMatt on Jan 23, 2012 8:00 AM EST up reply actions

What are you smoking?

Fife was never hired by Purdue. Where on earth do you get your info?

There was an article written on April 15th on Boiled Sports and the Ft Wayne paper saying that Fife was a candidate for the assitant job at Purdue. Then Fife was announced as a coach for MSU by April 20th.

You want us to believe that he was at Purdue for a couple of weeks in meetings?

by ruascott on Jan 23, 2012 10:07 AM EST up reply actions

Verbal agreement with Painter, hadn't signed a contract yet

But was operating as part of the staff before Izzo hired him away. Writers at goldandblack.com said Fife to Purdue was a done deal during this period of time. Then Izzo swooped in.

You want us to believe that he was at Purdue for a couple of weeks in meetings?

yes.

Ever Grateful. Ever True.

by PurdueMatt on Jan 23, 2012 11:43 AM EST up reply actions

So...you stated

that Fife was opearting as part of the staff for a full week and half prior to the article written in the Ft Wayne paper? Sorry, not buying that at all.

by ruascott on Jan 23, 2012 1:44 PM EST up reply actions

That is some nice lip service from Izzo. At the end of the day, that guy is all about winning and he will do whatever it takes to win. He is a compassionate person to a degree but he is all about getting the W’s.

Sounds like you know him pretty well.

by itsalwaysunnyinEL on Jan 22, 2012 12:09 PM EST up reply actions

Watch the press conference...

Izzo alludes to the fact that he told Dawson not to say anything to Painter. Izzo knows that there is bad blood between he and Painter, and Painter and Dawson. Why? Because Izzo knows Painter knows, and Dawson hates “snitches”.

This, and the lack of punishment of Dawson and the Izzone, tells us all we need to know about them.

by bstirrat on Jan 22, 2012 11:45 PM EST up reply actions

Yup!

Great analysis. Spot on.

by GeorgiaBoiler on Jan 23, 2012 12:12 AM EST up reply actions

It's so confusing to me

Purdue seems to have some of the coolest fans ever, and at the same time there are people like this who buy into all the conspiracy theory in the world. I don’t think you’re going to get much traction with anyone until you have evidence, a source, or ANYTHING beyond hearsay from your buddies.

by StickyGreen on Jan 23, 2012 10:33 AM EST up reply actions

Not conspiracy theories

When the same story is corroborated by many people in the AAU arena, folks close to the IU program, folks close to the Purdue program, and writers at goldandblack.com.

Ever Grateful. Ever True.

by PurdueMatt on Jan 23, 2012 11:45 AM EST up reply actions

Why is that

there is this question being asked right now over on GBI, and none of the posters over there agree with this conspiracy theory..

“Urban Legend” is one description that was used by a Purdue poster.

by ruascott on Jan 23, 2012 1:49 PM EST up reply actions

You are reading that thread wrong

BoilerBF is saying that with so many people (with nothing to gain by sharing) corroborating a consistent story, its hard to believe its a fictional conspiracy theory.

If you are a member of GBI, read the threads entitled, "Some thoughts on routines, MSU, Dawson, and recruiting (long)" and "can anyone explain what went down with fife?"

Just wanted to chime in here

If that stuff was really said by someone in the Izzone, and it appears that it was, it’s a pathetic excuse for fanhood and that person should be removed. The Izzone has taken quite a tumble in quality over the past few years, in my opinion, and this just makes me irate and embarrassed. Hummel’s been nothing but a great player with a great attitude and this kind of crap, whether it’s the injuries or the comments after are simply unjustified.

Tonight's going to be a good night.

Has Izzo compromised?

“If that stuff was really said by someone in the Izzone, and it appears that it was, it’s a pathetic excuse for fanhood and that person should be removed.”

Agreed, if John Sautter is still the team host at Purdue, he would call and usher and have the Purdue student or fan removed for a similar commnent.

The fact that nothing was done to that student or to Dawson when he talked trash to Coach Painter reveals Izzo’s true colors. Talk is cheap; let’s see if Izzo will actually punish a player who could reveal violations regarding his recruitment.

A minor detail

You’re assuming Izzo had 100% real-time knowledge of every exchange between every single player and coach and member of the student section. If something went on or was said that was truly inappropriate, and that can be reasonably identified, it will be dealt with.

Tonight's going to be a good night.

Izzo won't do squat.

He’s without class and runs a questionable program.

by GeorgiaBoiler on Jan 22, 2012 4:01 PM EST up reply actions   1 recs

It's pretty unlikely that Izzo even knew it was going on.

The refs clearly didn’t hear the exchange between Painter and Dawson, and they were closer than Izzo was.

Why are you involving the Georgia Bureau of Investigations in this? Must be part of the grand conspiracy . . .

by MSUDersh on Jan 23, 2012 2:25 PM EST up reply actions

I know it was something like that

I was just trying to point out the absurdity of using a message board similar to this one as any type of source, much less a primary source, of that type of info.

BTW, I found the Rivals Purdue site, and this was the first thing I could find there about this matter:

To the MSU fans stopping by:

-——————————————————————————————————————-
I can assure you that the handful of Purdue fans who have posted the anti-Izzo rhetoric on the board the last couple of days are significantly detached from the majority of Boilermaker followers.

To me, the true character of a man lies not in the adversity but to how he reacts to the adversity before him. To that end, Izzo has done nothing to dissuade my or many Boilermaker fans belief that he is a Hall of fame coach with a Hall of Fame pedigree and a man of high character.

Supposition regarding shady recruiting or rape accusations is just that, supposition. An angry opposing fan base is by nature going to slant toward believing the negative rather than reviewing the evidence and making an objective determination.

It’s just the way it is. Boiler Up and we look forward to our next meeting .

I like the vast majority of your fanbase. I work with a couple of Purdue alums that would bristle at what has been posted here lately by a select few. But like I said before, some people believe in, “He who screams loudest & longest must be right.”

by MSUDersh on Jan 23, 2012 3:13 PM EST up reply actions

LOL screaming that is fine

I expect there are plenty of fanbases that want to scream that! And believe me, the past two seasons, EL has been screaming the same about your squad (especially last season).
