Dick Vitale put out his pre-season evaluation and put the boilers at #37
"37. Purdue: JaJuan Johnson and E'Twaun Moore are gone but Matt Painter is encouraged by the potential return of Robbie Hummel."
He usually doesnt give us much props so surprised we are in his top 40 at all. He has 5 other big ten teams ahead of us.
3. OHIO STATE
13. Wisconsin
21. Michigan
24. Michigan State
28. Illinois
37. Purdue
I think we should at least be higher than Illinois.

Once the end of October rolls around and everyone sees how dominate the team will be in practice, Purdue should shoot up the rankings to somewhere around 20-25 or at least damn close

I have no problem flying under the radar early in the season
Purdue basketball has not shown the ability to carry a top tier rating over an entire season and deep into the tournament for many years. We always seem to do better when we’re dissed and pissed.
Being out of the polls avoids early season attention and gives MP more freedom to experiment with his rotation prior to the start of B1G Season.
That said, given the teams we usually schedule in Nov/Dec, there’s a good chance we will have a gaudy W-L mark by January and the national attention that comes with it.
The regular season is for building a tournament team. The only poll that matters is in April.
