Rick Reilly Piece welcoming Nebraska To Big Ten.
If you want to read what he says about the whole conference read it here.
Here's what Mr. Reilly said about Purdue
PURDUE
It's hard to hate Purdue. You get to watch the little train that runs around. You get to watch the Boilermaker mascot get in fights. And you get to watch Purdue throw the football like crazy and still lose 56-35. Great fun.
As of now, I'd be ecstatic that we can get 35 points per game again while "throwing the football like crazy". But Reilly beats the drum (pun intended) about us pretty much being mediocre.

ILLINOIS
You draw more for your spring game than the Illini do for regular-season ones. I’m not kidding. You drew 66,784 for your spring game this year. The Illini didn’t even average that for home games last year.
Seating capacity at Memorial Stadium is 62,870 according to the official website. It would be hard for them to draw an average of 4,000 people more than capacity.
If you want to make fun of a school for low attendance, make fun of Northwestern.

While that's true...
they only reached sell out capacity once last season. Most of their games did about 50-58 thousand fans a game.

That's still better than 4 teams in the conference
And the tone of “you draw more from your Spring Game” makes it seem like Illinois is pathetic and can’t get anyone to come to their games.
Nebraska drawing 66,784 fans to its Spring Game is impressive. That is more than most teams draw each week. That doesn’t mean that those teams have bad attendance, just that Nebraska has amazing attendance.

Well I thought it was obvious he was just going for shock value and stereotypical jokes that would ring well with casual fans who watch maybe a game a week and call it a day.
Anyone with any actual interest in the game would scoff at his claims and if he actually cared about the sport would realize his article was atrocious.

The guy doing the B1G Social Network posts comes up with better stuff than Reilly

Reilly is a pretentious dick
He still thinks blogs and social media are passing fads. He also thinks anyone without a journalism education should be arrested for trying to form a sentence in print.
A futile crusade to prevent mass ignorance
HammerAndRails, SBNation's Boilermaker Blog
What's a sentence?
I don’t have a journalism degree either, so I apparently don’t know what that is.
The quick brown fox jumped over the lazy Reilly?

all of that is true
but rick reilly used to be one of the best sportswriters in america. some of the long-form features he used to do were unbelievable. i don’t know what happened but at a point it seems like he just stopped trying and is content with cashing in his multi-million dollar salary at espn.

what???
“Buckeyes fans are usually very nice people,”
What the heck is this guy talking about? OSU fans are the biggest pricks in the nation. Oh wait, there was one nice Buckeye fan. The one that apologized to our family a few years ago after the OSU night game in Ross-Ade. He had observed the group of college-aged guys in OSU gear that shoved my 15 year old female cousin down in the stands.
Must've been Canadian
I come from a land down unda
In my experience fans are fans
there are assholes that attend IU and OSU just like there are assholes that attend Purdue. People are people.

mostly true, but I'd amend it:
college fans are college fans.
You can tell a lot about what a school really stands for by judging their alumni. I have a personal rule to not ever rate schools on what their current students do – they all have blithering imbeciles somewhere in the mix. It’s the folks who have real jobs and careers under their belt already about that really tell the tale though.

On second thought...
his Purdue comments show he doesn’t watch the teams he’s commenting about considering they were by far a stronger running team last year than passing team. I wouldn’t be surprised if he still thinks Tiller is the coach, though…

he's so old hat that he might think Mollenkopf is still the coach.
