B1G Social Network - Your opinion on The O$U

Thanks to everyone who participated in the Iowa Hawkeye poll.  If you haven't answered the poll and are interested, here is a link to it.

OK, well I figured that a certain B1G school was taking up all of the headlines, so we might as well find out how the Boilermaker fan base feels about THE Ohio State University.  I have always enjoyed how they always mention "the" before stating their university.  Please answer the poll after the jump.

Star-divide

Are you enjoying all of this OSU bashing that is going on, or do you feel bad for OSU and want them to come back strong as the face of the B1G?

I live near Columbus

And I have LOVED every minute of this. The people around here all have their tail between their legs. Many still say Tressel did nothing wrong. Just goes to further prove that the people around here live their lives wearing scarlet colored glasses (read as “blinders”).

I dunno

Tressel definitely did something wrong. But I think what he mostly did was try to cover up the stupidity of his players. I mean, even Titus said there was no way those players didn’t know what they were doing even when it was just the tattoos because there was so much compliance training.

But a strong OSU means a strong Big Ten. And the Big Ten struggles to get national respect, especially in football. I want an OSU that’s a national competitor. Just not at the expense of the Big Ten’s reputation as a clean conference.

I agree

Part of me wants to enjoy all the stuff going on at Ohio State, but then there is part of me that gets tired of hearing all of the SEC is the best in football, while the ACC/Big East is the best in basketball. I am hoping that having Nebraska in the conference will help with our overall view of the conference. But these next couple years probably aren’t going to help our reputation. Maybe Hope can build a football empire here at West Lafayette……Just a hope.

Love watching it...

But at the same time, you have to feel bad for those players who had no connections with all of these violations. As much as I hate aO$U, as a College Football fan, you hate to see these talents players and coaches stain (or ink in this case) their careers with such silly offenses.

Also, the “The” Ohio State puts is nothing original. The University of Michigan (where I am at this summer for a summer research program (Yes, Ann Arbor is a whore)) actually officially became “The” University of Michigan in the 1820s and Ohio State wasn’t even founded until 1870, so clearly OSU is far from original. Just some fun facts I thought I would throw out there. (I hate both schools, but once I get my stipend, Michigan for me will become the lesser of all evils).

Nice point.

You could easily make the argument too that it actually makes sense to have “the” in front for colleges that have the word “university” come first instead of last… You wouldn’t say “I go to University of Michigan”… the “the” comes naturally. Just like nobody should ever say “I go to The Ohio State University” (I think I just threw up in my mouth a little bit). The “the” is UNnatural.

To your call once more we rally....
