Rapheal Davis is saying the right things
I've said it before and I'll say it again but I think Rapheal Davis is going to be a really good player for the Boilermakers. He doesn't always get the attention of some other players but I think he will be special. I love how he talks about working on his ball handling and his defense. Obviously he understands that in order for him to see the court under Matt Painter he is going to have to play great defense and not turn the ball over. You'd think a kid averaging 28 pts a game would want to focus on scoring but he wants to work on ball handling and defense. I think it also speaks very highly of himself that he is excelling in the classroom. I can't wait to get him on campus and hopefully he can pull an Austin Etherington (supposedly he recruited Zeller hard after signing with IU) and recruit Gary Harris or AJ Hammons to Purdue.

I agree 100000%
Rapheal Davis is going to be a really good player for the Boilermakers. He is an under ranked guy and everything I hear about him is always positive. He committed as a freshman and has held true to his choice and I value that greatly.
Gotta love this kid
He has a great head on his shoulders and knows exactly what he needs to do to be a better player and round out his game. Can’t wait to see him step on the floor at Mackey and start draining 3’s.
To your call once more we rally....
Love smart kids
With a 3.8 GPA, sounds like he’ll be like Smooge, who is an academic All-American. I don’t understand how can they rank a 29ppg guy so low (like many don’t put him in the Top 6 of the 2012 Class)? I thought his school is in Class 4A, no?
Definitely wanna see him work harder on defense, b/c that’s the only way he can get PT under MP. Ball handling is nice, but I see it as secondary. We’ll have Ronnie and Kyle and Bryson a year later, so I don’t see a pressing need for Davis on that. Rather, from Yogi’s comment, I’d much prefer seeing him hitting the weight room, get stronger, coz B1G is a rough league, and sounds like Rapheal can really do some damage posting up small guards, and also he’ll be a huge boost if he can help securing rebound from his posn.
I agree
never have understood the low ranking for some one who averaged 29ppg as a junior but if I had to guess i’d say it is because he is on a terrible high school team. I believe they had a losing record last year. I don’t think that should factor into his ranking but it might
Maybe shooting percentage?
Not sure what the case is for Rapheal, but since his team’s bad, if he’s taking every shot and has a terrible shooting percentage, that might outweigh the fact that he’s scoring 29ppg. I hope that’s not the case, but it’s something that could bring his rank down.
Yeah, South Side is 4A
My high school (said like a proud expectant father) has its good and bads, but a 3.8 GPA isn’t something to scoff at at any high school. I can’t wait to go watch some games this season now I’m back home.
I expect big things with the kind of attitude he has. I hope he remains ranked low so that he’s under the radar, since a ranking really doesn’t amount to shit anyways.
I come from a land down unda
fine by me
keep him underrated. He’ll prove himself on the court.

From the NBA top 100 camp
Ronnie Johnson scored 9 points in his first game yesterday and 7 points in the second (against the Grizzlies, the team with Gary Harris and Rapheal Davis). Rapheal scored 8 in the first and 4 in the second. Gary scored 8 in the first and 17 in the second. The Grizzlies are the top seed after the first day. Hopefully Rapheal is helping pull Gary toward Purdue. Here’s the link with the most information that I found:

There is a Q&A
with Harris by Inside the Hall. Purdue was mentioned as a pursuer. Damn…. I usually don’t wish stuff like this but I really wish Molock would decommit. I mean, he is never going to play! Johnson will be ahead of him for all 4 years and when Scott comes here to play a combo guard he will slide over when Johnson comes off the floor. I think it would be in Purdue’s and Molock’s best interest if he played somewhere else.
However, if he does come here I will never hold it against him. He committed as a freshman. If he has that kind of loyalty to the program then I would have that kind of loyalty to him.

And this from ESPN about Rapheal
“Rapheal Davis chipped in with 12 and was simply outstanding on the defensive end against Gabe York holding the scoring sensation to only 11 points.” I’d give a link but that was literally all they mentioned about him (it was one of those “on the trail” posts). I’m ready to see him suit up for the Boilers.
About Molock, I understand what you mean, and if he comes to the conclusion that it’s best for him to decommit, then he should. But he was highly regarded before his injury, so if he’s willing to honor his commitment, then we shouldn’t be trying to push him out of West Lafayette before he even gets there. Painter wouldn’t have offered if he felt Molock wasn’t worthy of the spot. But, if at all possible, I WANT GARY HARRIS AT PURDUE.
On Molock
It’s hard to generate an opinion about the kid because of his injury. RJ has just recently exploded onto the scene and will likely be ahead of Molock for most of their time at Purdue. I can only imagine what Molock is thinking since RJ committed.
And yes, I, TOO, WANT GARY HARRIS AT PURDUE!
I feel like as time has gone on, our chances of getting a commitment from Gary Harris have been getting better and better.
I agree that it got better
until now. Now I feel like we have reached the point where we will be on the downswing. With him preforming well in the Jr’s vs Sr’s games and at the NBA 100 camp, I feel like it has gone on TOO long at this point and national programs such as Duke, UNC, Kansas, and UK will start swooping in. If we don’t get our scholarship situation worked out in favor for Harris soon, I don’t think he will be a Boiler.

I feel like it's a little late for the likes of Duke, UNC, Kansas, and UK
I don’t think he’s in love with any of those schools enough to instantly commit if he were to get an offer from any of them.
If he were interested, I’m sure it would be displayed somewhere.
I wouldn't worry about Duke/UNC/Kansas/UK
…b/c the frontrunner (by far) is MSU. Look, Purdue and IU are not overly committed in 2012, but that they both have a ton of guards/wings. Instead, sadly to say, MSU is the perfect destination for Harris, not only with their FF coach, but also the fact that there is scholarship available plus they have the bigs and just need to get a wing/guard.
Now having said that, if last year is any guide, one would think Purdue is the perfect place for Dawson too since we are a team on the rise and need an athletic forward who can score and grab a ton of rebounds. Well, he went to MSU instead. So now, I want it even more to have Gary Harris pull a reverse-Dawson on MSU and commit to Purdue!!
I don't know about that
It’s no secret that MSU has had a ton of recent drama. Two players were suspended and three transfered in thit past year. Who knows what else is going on in that program.
The pros to going to MSU are the lack of stability at the guard position (although that’s true about every position, and even that arguement could go both ways), the national stage provided by the series with Duke, Kansas, and Kentucky, and the sheer success of Tom Izzo in the past decade.
On the flip side, there’s all of that drama off the court.
Dawson’s committment was announced two days after Chris Allen was kicked off of the team and he may have made a verbal committment to Izzo prior to that.
So, I wouldn’t say that MSU is by far the frontrunner. Especially since Gary Harris has been so quiet about his recruitment in general. It’s obvious that he is being very careful about his recruiting process. If he wasn’t, he’d probably have already given the folks in Bloomington another reason to start thinking about making space for a sixth banner in Assembly Hall.
Gary and Rapheal won a championship together
http://www.mydailyprogress.com/index.php/whiteysworld/article/nbpa_top_100_camp_award_winners/
It didn’t mention Rapheal in the article about the championship game, but he had a big game earlier in the tournament. Hopefully Gary enjoyed playing (and winning) with Rapheal, and this is just a sign of things to come: Gary and Rapheal beating Yogi.
A different article
Says Rapheal switched to the Celtics. I know he was originally on Gary’s team (Grizzlies). I guess they switched him for some reason?
