Crean Success
I know most of us on the Purdue side of things think Tom Crean is not a very good coach, and IU won't be successful with him. Am I the only one on here that is hoping he starts to turn IU around a little bit? One of the reasons I want to see IU turn it around is because I want our games to matter on the national level again, like they did in the 90's. But the main reason I don't want to see Crean fail anymore is because I don't want him to get fired. I keep thinking if Crean gets fired, who will IU get to replace him? The name Brad Stevens keeps jumping out at me. He's from Indiana, and you know IU will offer him everything they can to land him. If Stevens can make Butler a top 25 team with decent recruits, what could he do with great recruits (which IU and Purdue both have coming in)? Long story short I want IU to start winning because I feel safe with Crean there. There potential is severely limited with Crean, and I like that. Thoughts?

I don't care much about Crean
Just need to focus on our own, and whatever Crean/IU does is their matter. If they become strong again, we need to be strong to beat them; if they remain weak, we still need to be strong to whip their butt.
Even if Stevens go to IU, his success is not guaranteed. There are bureaucracy in IU that he has to deal with that he might not have to at Butler. Maybe his style won’t fit the 5-star recruits at IU. I am not predicting Stevens will be a bust if he goes to IU, but I am just saying his success is not a given. And even in the best case where it is a mutual match and he puts IU back at the elite level, so what? That just means we need to push ourselves to the top and compete with them.
If UNC gets top recruits and does well, I don’t think it scares Duke or Coach K. Coz they believe in themselves. I think that’s what we need here at Purdue too – an attitude that we don’t care how “successful” you may seem on paper (or even your record), we just know that if we play each other, we’ll out-hustle you, out-compete you, disrupt you, annoy you, frustrate you, and just overall make your life miserable. Just look at what Cardinal did to Wade.

I'mma rec this
because it means quit hanging your hats on IU failures and on the successes at Purdue. Both fan bases have a problem with being concerned more about the other program than themselves, but Purdue fans seem to have it worse. Both Rivals boards are just sad to read.

I don't care if they come back
We need to measure ourselves against programs that have accomplished something in the last 25 years like MSU, Duke, etc.

although I resent that jab
(as we could say we should measure ourselves against a team that has done something in the last 25 years) We at least have a championship game appearance in the last decade.

AJ, I used to think you were a respectable human being with original and unbiased views
But you have just now joined the droves of people who have made that joke.
that's why I tried to use the joke sarcastically
sorry I should have used the sarcasm font

It might be so bad at this point though
that we may need to sacrifice an entire family of chickens.

Travis really should have said 15 instead of 25.
IU has an NCAA title, a runner-up, another Final Four, and five Big Ten titles in the last 25 years. In the last 15, that is reduced to one title game appearance and one shared conference title.

Almost 25 for the title
My mistake. I do realize I don’t have room to talk when we have no Final Fours in 31 years, but my point is that we should strive to compete with the programs that regularly make the Final Four.

CLAPPY
Brad Stevens has hurt IU as much as MP recruiting in the same area. As Stevens said “What’s wrong with the guys I’ve got?”.
Purdue “parked” two players last season that would have helped a lot of other (IU) Big 10 teams, making this years class that much stronger.
Don’t give up on Clappy yet, he just showed up at the wrong time. He fits in so well with the carnival atmosphere in Bloomington. Hopefully he can do for Indiana what Tommy Amaker did for Michigan.
The two players that Purdue "park" - you mean AJ and Hale?
How does that make this year class stronger?
Look North
Everyone think the next coach is going to be the savior. Look North, ND has had a revolving door for the past 15 years (estimate), what have they accomplished? All the speculating is good for discussion, however, wait and see, their record will tell all.
If curses were true, then nd maybe cursed by firing Holtz and iu for Knight.
What is Purdue’s curse?
difference is
I think IU would put up with mediocrity for much longer than ND. I think that Crean could put up records of around .500 for several seasons before anyone got overly twitchy in Bloomington. 1 season of 6-6 on the football field at ND will get you fired every time.

Not hiring John Wooden
I know an offer was made, but he didn’t like the terms and Purdue didn’t want to make it happen.
Yup
…and that curse is what keeps us from FF year in and year out :-(
he also didn't like the way Purdue had treated the previous coach

Reason Fans like Crean
Crean will not be canned anytime soon, because he has had a great deal of success with the 2011 (Zeller), 2012 (5 or 6 four star players) 2013 (2 fantastic players). IU fans know that if they kiss Crean goodbye, they can kiss many/most of those fantastic players goodbye along with him. I think if Crean cannot get these guys to turn IU around, excuses will not matter. Until then, Crean has a golden ticket.
exactly
if Crean goes anywhere we start again from where we were 3 years ago. Not a good thing.
Also you’re a damn dirty traitor to your city. I don’t care what Athens did to you, you don’t go and fight for the Spartans. That’s like Robbie Hummel transferring to IU for his senior year.

Absolutely agree
They will not fire Crean until at least after the Class of 2012 comes and they are still sub-500. And if they are above .500, whatever the record, they would wait until at least 2014 (and perhaps beyond, depending on what 5-star AHOPE or Indiana Elite recruits Crean gets).
you mean through the pipeline?

IU Getting Better
I’d like to see IU back. With the recruiting class Crean has coming in, I think he will have to work very hard… to fail. That’s one heck of a class, you have to be some kind of coach to screw that up and not get back to winning.
There's no question that those kids will be able to win some games
However, I feel like IU will be losing a lot of close games.
