2012 Rivals updated rankings and Willis
The Top 150 rankings were updated today and Purdue has 3 members:
#91 - Jay Simpson - down 7 spots
#95 - Rapheal Davis - up 5 spots
#120 - Ronnie Johnson - newly added (and expected to rise)
What I really enjoyed was seeing that Yogi Ferrell saw himself drop from a 5 star recruit to a 4 star recruit. Couple this with both of IU's recruits (Davis and Hartman) falling out of the top 50 list for 2013, and IU's committments may not be as good as the Loosiers think. Willis was the star of the AAU Tournament came against two highly-touted Indiana recruits, Devin Davis and Collin Hartman.
"Derek had his first opportunity to shine on a national stage and he didn’t disappoint," Scout.com national analyst Brian Snow told Louisville Courier-Journal's Jody Demling. "He is highly skilled for a kid who is every bit of 6-9 and effortlessly knocks in NBA threes. Add in an impressive handle and solid athleticism, and it is easy to see why Purdue jumped on him very early."Willis told Demling nothing has changed about his Purdue commitment and he has to keep working hard. After his big game, Willis got invited to the Nike Elite 100 camp that's being held in early June in St. Louis. It's for elite players across the country.
I can already hear the excuses from the Loosiers on why their team sucks...we know Clappy the Clown can't coach so, he MUST get great players to be effective.
Lastly, it was great to see 2 Boilers make the Top 50 list (Scott and Stephens) while Davis and Hartman fell out.
BOILER UP!!!!

You forgot Molock
Who dropped out of the top 150 due to his injury. Hope he plays well the rest of the summer.
yeah Yogi just dropped a few spots (only the top 25 get the "5 star" rating)
Notice Gary Harris is no longer a 5 star either. I don’t think a drop of a few spots in the top 30 is that big of a deal. Yogi and Harris are still rock stars and saying it out loud that they aren’t isn’t going to change the facts. 3 in the top 50 (before AAU season finishes) and 5 in the top 150 is still a top 5 class.
Davis and Hartman are part of the “first 5 out”, I’ll try and dig up that link. At the end of the summer Rivals will have a full 100 and we’ll see where they all wind up. Probably within the top 60.

Harris never was a 5 star.
He actually moved up though to a higher 4 star.
Ever Grateful. Ever True.
Previous years there were 26 in 2011
2010 -27
2009 – 25
2008 – 25
2007 -28
2006 – $h!t, you get the point
recruits
Face it BOILERMAKERS MP recruited most of these IU commits.
Players still have to improve a lot after they get on campus……..and be willing to be part of the team.
And……..sorry IU……play some D!
Surprised I actually agree w/PURDUE7
The fact is, yes, MP also recruit a lot of the IU commits.
And I fully agree with the statement *be willing to be part of the team* (i.e. accept the role your coach asks you to do and do a great job at that to help the team – sounds like a no-brainer but many kids don’t think this way).
And the ranking really doesn’t mean anything the moment the kid steps on campus. Aaron Craft was ranked #111 and Deshaun Thomas #22, but I’ll argue that Craft is as good (if not better) player for O$U last year, and we are comparing a 3-star and a 5-star here. So dropping from 25 to 33 or 48 to 59 or 86 to 93 hardly means much to me.
Argue?
That is not an argument……..Craft is Kramer 2.0!
He is actually better at quite a few things……and has 3 years left.
Craft is going to be that guy that you always think should have graduated 2 years ago

Craft a good college player
Craft is a great college player, but Rivals may do their ratings based on a guy’s NBA potential. In that department, he doesn’t have anything on DeShaun Thomas.
I disagree
Rivals, Scouts, or ESPN all based their ratings on college potential, not NBA. For example, ESPN specifically cites that a 94-96 is a “High-major prospect – the centerpiece to a high-major program who starts three to four years.”
I am not saying the ratings are wrong. Looking at their high school/AAU career, DeShaun Thomas deserves to be a #22 and Craft a #111. But my point being, these ranking is irrelevant as soon as the player gets on campus. If #111 can perform as good as a #22, then whether the guy is a 5-star at #25 or “drops to” a 4-star at #36 makes little difference to me. And especially if the guy is only a sophomore/junior in high school.
Explain Anthony Davis
- in his class and he’s 6’ 10" and only 200 lb. That is definitely NOT NBA PF material.
KRAMER vs CRAFT
I love Kramer but Craft is better already in almost every way.
The one thing Kramer did that Craft hasn’t been asked to do is guard bigs.
Mitch McGary #5 ???!!!!
He’s been on the recruit list forever and all the sudden sky rockets to #5? I know that Painter has had his eye on this kid. Wouldn’t that be a great pickup? Has anyone else noticed this? Forget Harris & Hammons, get McGary!
This speaks how ridiculous those ranking is
Mitch McGary goes from #92 last time to #5. Does he just grow 6 inches and add 30 lbs of muscle?
He is going to Arizona, Florida, Maryland, or Texas....
He’s made a big splash at recent AAU events. Also improved grades and strength. Insidethehall.com had a video of him recently that showed he is pretty athletic for someone his size. I think he lacks the touch around the rim or a jumpshot that a 5 star recruit should have though. Definitely lots of potential though.
Ever Grateful. Ever True.
he's said in interviews he doesn't like playing inside
and would prefer to play a mid to long range game. That has me concerned about him as a college player. He’s got a high motor but admittedly would rather not bang on the inside. A guy with his size and strength belongs nowhere else but on the block.
For what it’s worth I have a hunch he’ll wind up in Kansas.

He will do work down low
I think by that he just means he would rather play face to the basket rather than on the block. If that is what he is comfortable with, then that is fine. He will still attack the rim and will use his good shot to create those opportunities to drive.

Whatever happened
to recriuting the Big Dog’s kid, looks like he is in the top 50. I heard very little of Matt being interested in him or maybe it was the reverse?

A casualty to the "early offer" syndrom
While we were accepting commitments from Davis, Simpson and Molock, GRIII was still developing. His game has grown by leaps and bounds over the last 18 months. I don’t necessarily disagree with Painter’s philosophy of locking these guys up early because his direct competition is playing that game (Indiana, Illinois) but it would be nice to save one scholly for situations like this. My guess is that we would have had a great land him.

Cuonzo offered him when he was at Missouri State
His other offers are from Indiana St, Valpo, IUPUI. Look, I don’t know him at all, but
1) ‘Zo couldn’t get him, and Big Dog played with ‘Zo on the same team together, so it isn’t like family ties is a given,
2) Some ppl may complain if we offered him b/c they want the scholarship reserved spots for Harris or Hammons. Their argument usually falls in the line of “Doesn’t look like many other B1G teams are after him so he must not be THAT good.” (just reporting, doesn’t mean I necessarily agree with it)
3) Of all teams (other than IU), I thought Mich is the least likely destination considering they were the B1G power in the early 90s before we (and Big Dog of course) took over during the middle of the decade.
A while ago I read that he wanted to create his own name for himself
and not just follow in his father’s footsteps by going to Purdue.
