RJ a near lock?

Just talked to an inside source..........who says RJ is 99.9% lock to be a BOILERMAKER!

Not sure who leaves for 2012.....options:

Sandi is supposed to be REALLY home sick.  If you have ever been to Europe you would know why.

Bade leaves.  Not much more to say.......he just isn't a BIG 10 level player.

Hart:  A.  he just leaves.

          B.  he graduates next year and takes his 5th year at another D1 school.........least likely.

          C.  he plays his RSS year as a walk on.

This has been pointed out before but....

Bade or Hart don’t help in this situation. We would still be over one scholly for 2013. IMO the most likely candidate is Sandi. With us talking to potential one and dones for 2011 and still recruiting 2012, he makes the most sense. The other possibility is Mollock decommitting (mutual agreement?)

by Hummel's figurines on May 2, 2011 10:33 AM EDT reply actions

Yes and No

Yes – it’s pretty safe to feel very confident about RJ joining the team.

No – that you will get any peace of mind regarding the scholarship situation.

Since we are booked for 2013 as well, Bade, Hart, and Barlow would do nothing to alleviate the scholarships for that year.

Sandi, Carroll, TJ, AJ, Hale, Lawson, or RD, Molock, or Simpson would have to leave (or de-commit) to have it work out nice and clean.

Not bad.

I also heard Watford and Capabainco are leaving IU.

ITS A DONE DEAL

Sources close to the mind of RJ are telling me he will come to Purdue and then transfer to Mizzou a year later. I’d sure love that cough

Wrong

Neither is transferring. Capo was just tweeting yesterday about starting summer school and looking forward to next season.

Never seen RJ play and haven't heard much about him...

anyone know what type of player he is. How would he compare to other members of the 2012 class?

by Boylemaker88 on May 2, 2011 1:06 PM EDT reply actions

Role Player, Winner

But he isn’t going to set the world on fire. I do like the pipeline to NC being created, but would really rather have Harris or Smith-Rivera. This signing to me is not a good idea unless Molock is gonzo.

by OldSchoolStyle on May 2, 2011 1:32 PM EDT reply actions

Painter has little to no relationship with DSR, and Painter is not done pursuing Harris. Also, Molock, Scott and RJ can co-exist. You can play more than one ball handler at once, and Scott and RJ will bring much more offense to the position than we have had at recent years. Also, he is a scrappy defender and plays with a very high IQ.

IMO,could play significant minutes at Purdue for 4 years.

by Purdue_Pete on May 2, 2011 2:57 PM EDT up reply actions

I don't mind having 3 PG's

However, two in one class seems a little foolish with Scott coming in the next year to possibly be a four year starter. If one of Molock or RJ was a “can’t miss” guy then it would be different, but essentially we are picking up two guys that are solid-to-above-average role players.

by OldSchoolStyle on May 2, 2011 4:46 PM EDT up reply actions

From the sounds of things..

RJ might be a little more than a simple role player. I don’t think he’ll be a star, but I think he is good enough to be an essential piece of a very successful era of basketball.

Painter didn’t have to offer RJ. He knew he would have a great shot at him, and he had the luxury of seeing him play (literally) his entire career. He was making a VERY informed decision when he offered.

He could have easily waited for Gary Harris, Hammons and worst case scenario bank the scholarship on the plethora of targets that we don’t have room for in the class of 2013 (VJB, Foster, Irvin, or a late bloomber).

Painter had options. He chose RJ.

by Purdue_Pete on May 2, 2011 7:11 PM EDT up reply actions

It isn't about co-existing

…but that we don’t even have enough scholarship!

by charlespig on May 3, 2011 10:30 PM EDT up reply actions

More than likely Painter

is thinking that one of the ’12 players is going to de-committ. Probably Molock.

by ruascott on May 2, 2011 2:05 PM EDT reply actions

Why does everyone think Molock

is going to decommit? He had an injury and didn’t play at all this season, so it’s not like Matta, Izzo, or Calipari have been knocking on his door. Why would he break ties?

by jimmyj1426 on May 2, 2011 2:55 PM EDT reply actions

my sources say

Someone already snatched up Bade’s Neon over at Twin City Dodge, and he’s a little miffed. Who can blame him? Low rust, recently rebuilt tranny, and factory air.

No one is getting kick out

John Hart will graduate at the end of 2011. He got a paid 4 year degree and will have to walk on if he plays a 5th year…that is my prediction.

And another thing, if you want to play on a Boiler site, no need to talk junk against the Boilers. You have the CQ or that other junk IU site to do that.

not sure what the deal was, but I used to see those Murker's all over campus back in the day

Ugliest damn cars…. I’d just look at them and think, “Why?”

must have been pretty cheap to come by at that point.

Seemed like the right car for Sandi tho – kinda European, yet sorta American-ized… foreign-ish, yet non-descript.

I thought Molock is solid

Why would Painter even offer RJ in the first place? If he already has Molock and a supposedly even better PG the next year? If I was Molock and accepted the offer and then coach went after another guy at my position I would be pissed. Having 3 PG within one year of each other doesn’t seem to make sense?

by jackrider on May 4, 2011 7:06 PM EDT reply actions

3PG

I would like to see MP install new defenses. Why not full court press if your bigs are Hale and Lawson? Molock is supposed to be a good defender, RJ is quick…….AJ, Stephens, Smotherman and Davis are athletic and long for 2/3’s. WIllis is a JJ/Hummel clone……hopefully.

The only beef we have is Simpson…….along with Carrol and Sandi.

2011-13 recruits are all athletes………the only ones with any bulk are Davis and Simpson.

Add Barlow and Hart into the mix and playing time is gonna be hard earned.

by PURDUE7 on May 4, 2011 8:02 PM EDT reply actions

I've found myself wondering this as well

why not a full court press? granted, you need the athletes to pull it off – and if you don’t have them, then don’t bother. And it appears that they are on their way. Perhaps that’s part of the bigger plan. Would really shake up the big ten.

Then, 3 talented PGs makes sense, because you’ve got to have fresh bodies to sub in to keep up the intensity.

Guards

Just watch what IOWA is gonna do……….40 minutes of pressure. They should be fun to watch and hard to play against.

3PG
The biggest problem with all these guards is defensive match ups and offensive ability.
Scott is PG who can score……drives and 3’s.
Molock has been described as athletic and aggressive……with an average jumper.
RJ is a flash who has shown the ability to make open 3’s.

I hope MP is done with Barlow at PG. I think we need his athleticism on the baseline. He is physical enough to guard 3/4 and will be a match up nightmare. 30+ minutes of Lewjack and a few of TJ or Barlow when he is out is good for me.
