POY / COY "Expert" opinions - FWIW.... and it's better than you'd think
ESPN has a big write up on POY and COY picks from their stable of 15 basketball "experts" (read: bloggers, contributors, analysts, and writers). It's an inexplicably terrible spreadsheet (it's called "fixed column width, guys), but covers each "expert's" picks for Coach of the Year and Player of the Year for each conference. Curiosity got the best of me and I had to see just how heavy the OSU slant would be...... not as bad as I thought.
I'll save you some pain - here's the totals:
POY:
Jordan Taylor: 1 (Jay's been watching too may Duke games....)
COY:
Matt Painter: 8
Thad Matta: 5
Bo Ryan: 2
The COY numbers are less surprising. Glad to see JJ getting some well deserved recognition. Very Glad. Also of note, 5 "experts" give the Boilers a sweep on the two awards, picking JJ and Matty. Only 2 for Sully and Thad. Hmmmm.

I used the quotation marks when referring to the "experts" as well
I was surprised to see JJ and Sullinger tied up for B1GPOY. Not surprised with Matt owning a commanding lead for B1GCOY.
With that said, maybe we aren’t giving these “experts” enough credit. Earlier in the season, they were definitely all on the Jared Sullinger band wagon, but I think, given our recent success, they’ve noticed that JJ’s wagon is faster, leaner, and probably has hotter chicks on it.
I bet the guy who chose Jordan Taylor thought the decision was too hard.
Opinionists... is that a word?
Depends…… are they the same ones that labeled Harrison Barnes as a pre-season first team All American? Without having played a single game at this level? I digress.
And the guy who chose Jordan Taylor – Jay Bilas. He doesn’t stop gushing over Duke for long enough to have a clue about the lowly Big Ten. Jordan’s had a good year. POY? He’d be lucky to be 4th.

Oh what a load of crap
Freshmen should never be considered for a pre-season award.
He’s doing a lot better now, but he’s definitely not All-American material right now.
+1
emphasis on never

Painter is a lock IMO
JJ….hmm should have it too but the media loves Sullinger…50/50 on that one; both are well deserving of the award
glad to see JJ making progress in the eyes of the media

the post on espn went up at 4:03 EST and you posted this at 4:11
"Yet she became more and more promiscuous as she recalled the days of her youth, when she was a prostitute in Egypt. 20 There she lusted after her lovers, whose genitals were like those of donkeys and whose emission was like that of horses. " Ezekiel 23: 19 - 20
impressive.

Please tell me who you would pick. I have posted the question on facebook and twitter also
without knowing names, who has a better resume?
2 canidates for B10 Player of the year..
- 20.5 ppg, 1 apg. 32% 3pt%, 8 rpg, 2.4 blocks pg, .9 steals pg
- 17.1 ppg, 1.3 apg, 27% 3pt%, 9.8 rbg, .5 blocks pg, 1 steals pg
Without knowing it is easy to say who has better numbers and who is more “deserving” of the award.
But since it doesn’t always go to the most deserving, #2 will probably win because it is more a popularity contest than it is who is the best player
some claim it's more than numbers
Eamonnn Brennnnenn on ESPN threw all the numbers out to say it usually goes to the “best player on the best team”….. Yeah, well sometimes it doesn’t – there’s nothing hard and fast about that “rule”. See 2003, 2004, 2007, 2008. Also of note – Co-BTPOYs in 99 and 2000
