HawkeyeBoiler's Super Awesome Fun Time Idea

Well, hopefully the title sucked you into reading this.  No, this post doesnt pass along any crucial information to being a Purdue fan, but it does involve the Boiler basketball team.  By this, I am talking about the final regular season game against Iowa, which of course is the school I attend.

Nationally televised game at 3 pm Saturday seems like an ok time for a game.  The reasoning behind this post is to potentially see who is coming to the game to (fingers crossed) cheer the Boilers on to an outright or share of the Big 10 Title.  Believe it or not, tickets for Iowa basketball games are not expensive.  General admission is 25 bucks, which isnt bad.

I know it is probably a long drive for most, if not all of you, but I would love to get together with some fellow Boilermaker fans after the game to talk basketball and shoot the breeze.  Since I live down here, I know of some pretty good restaurants to go to and some bars where there are good deals on beer (no Yuengling however).  I would happy to be a tour guide for fellow fans, and I think it would be a great time for all.

Comment on this if you are interested or comment if you can't believe im trying to organize a Purdue gathering in Our Most Hated Rival's motherland.

oddly enough

A week day may be possible, but Saturday makes it impossible.

Sounds like fun

It’s about a 6 hour drive for me since I’m just south of West Lafayette. I’ve made the drive through Iowa City numerous times since my grandparents used to live north of Waterloo.

If I can get off of work I will most definitely try and get up there, even if it is our OMHR’s stomping ground.

yay, they finally scheduled it!!

I just might take you up on this, my friend. If it were on Sunday then I wouldn’t be able to make it, but this just might work.

I’ll have to talk to my wife and see what we have going on. I still have 7 basketball arenas to scratch off my list (if you include Nebraska) before graduating in 2013, and Carver-Hawkeye is one of them. Looks like a ~5-1/2 hour drive. Sounds reasonable. Too bad Southwest doesn’t fly to your airport – that would be dirt cheap if they did, and it would probably be worth it. Their nearest servicing airport is freakin’ Omaha… which is nearly as far away as West Lafayette is.

Incidentally, I still need Kinnick as one of only 4 remaining BT football stadiums (including Nebraska), so hopefully it would be the first of at least two trips in the near future to Iowa City. Minnesota messed my count up by building a new stadium after I had been to the Metrodome.

Anyway, I’ll look into it. I’m definitely interested in making the trip.

yeah, I thought the same thing.

seemed like a big enough city to me. but southwest doesn’t fly much to anything north of texas and west of the mississippi.

well, just let me know if people are interested.

i might have to go home that day after the game, but if enough people are willing to come to Iowa City, we will have a get together.

I'm planning a road trip

and have 6 people on board so far.

We’re probably gonna leave W Laf around 9 am, which puts us in Iowa City around 1:30 central time – time enough for lunch near Carver-Hawkeye perhaps?

yeah, the Strip in Coralville is near Carver Hawkeye.

The Vine has real good food and is like 2 miles from CHA. We’ll figure something out for sure.
