Congrats Lady Boilers for defeating defending national champ!
The Lady Boilers upset #4-ranked and defending national champion Texas A&M at home today. I watched the game and while we were HORRIBLE in rebounding and was equally ATROCIOUS in taking care of the basketball, we play some suffocating defense in the second half that simply overwhelms the defending champ.
That all comes after Coach Versyp got a technical when KK Houser got called for a charge. Oh wow, Coach was *IRATE* and you can see her face all red and screaming and needs to be restrained by her assistant. But hey, that seems to wake up the Boilers and from that point on it was all Purdue. Our defense was smothering and forcing TOs after TOs after TOs. Maybe we need to see that in a coach some time.
In any case, it is a great win. Just imagine how good this team can be if Drey didn't tear her ACL. Still, just like we lost Hummel last year, we are not going to cry about what we don't have, but rather focus on what we can do with the players we do have.
One last thing, I don't usually blame the officials, so I am just gonna say, I am *VERY* surprised that we seem to have a home-court disadvantage. Even without counting the non-calls (oh Texas A&M played very aggressive D), I'd think the home team usually gets the benefit of 50-50 calls (e.g. is it a charge or a blocking foul?), but heck, we were losing AT LEAST 80% of the 50-50 calls! Oh well, it's a win so I am not going to complain too much.
BTW, our 2012 recruit Hayden Hamby's team beat another team 62-53 (http://highschoolsports.al.com/news/article/196297942605665228/west-morgan-62-priceville-53/). What's amazing is that she herself scores 52 pts!!!! That is, she almost matches the other team's scoring just by herself!!!! You'd think she must be like a Shaq and her team just throws the ball to her down low, but she's just a 5'7 PG!! Hayden won Miss Basketball of her state as a JUNIOR. I just don't understand why she is not getting the national attention, but in any case I am glad she is gonna join us next season. (BTW, also heard that she's like a 4.0 GPA and Class President and pretty much just an all-around person)

I was at the game as well
Even with half of Mackey filled, I love how easy it is to get that place rocking. It’s great to see the fans being so supportive and really involved in the game. IMO, they’re generally louder and more involved than the non-student fans at men’s games. Pretty sure my voice needs sometime to recover after the 2 volleyball games and the women’s game today. Let’s do it again against ND on Saturday!

I definitely had to laugh at all the alumni flipping shit there when Versyp got the T.
Or I would have, had I not been flipping shit myself. But you’re definitely right about the alumni being more involved that go to those games. Hell, they even filled the rich-people seats better!
As for the officiating, that had everything to do with A&M’s coach riding the refs all game. We/I got on him a few times for it, but the officials only seemed to notice once Sharon went apeshit and things evened up a bit.

I need to go to one of these games before I graduate
I watched the end of this one on tv and it was pretty exciting.
The lack of ink the women's basketball team gets on this site is appalling.
Thanks for the write up, charlespig.
Nobody cares about your fantasy baseball team
Sorry about that
I know Matt (Boiler Bandsman) is still going to do an occasional column on the ladies. Now that football is done I can try to do more on them.

Okay, I think that's a sign.
LOL. For one thing, my name’s Michael….not that you’d know since I’ve been so damn awful at getting articles up. I actually have one basically wrapped up for the first 7 non-cons, which are largely cupcakes. I’m hoping to cover the @Duke, TAMU, ND trifecta with one post sometime shortly after the ND game on the 10th.

Right, Micheal
Sorry about that. I’ve been sick for a week and I am lucky to know my own name.

No problem.
I think the entire Purdue fanbase is sick right now. Half the people I know on campus have been, just in the last week.

NP, glad someone appreciates it
Go Boilers! (BTW, Stephanie White, our captain on the 1999 national champ team, was the BTN analyst for this game. Maybe it is her bringing the good luck)
