Welcome To The Fold: Kingsley Ike
I'm not sure where Riley has been, but he's been slacking in his recruiting posts with the commitment of Kingsley Ike. As a result, he will be placed in a burlap sack and beaten with reeds for his largesse.
All kidding aside, we're in desperate need of a difference-maker at defensive end. Purdue's best defenses have had dominant defensive ends. We've sent a steady stream of them to the NFL from Rosevelt Colvin to Shaun Phillips, Akin Ayodele, Ray Edwards, Anthony Spencer, Cliff Avril, Rob Ninkovich, Mike Neal, and finally Ryan Kerrigan. We've got some solid prospects right now in Ryan Russell and Ryan Isaac. but we need to keep the cabinet well stocked.
Welcome Kingsley Ike, a thee-star defensive end commit from Pflugerville, TX. Ike is a bigger defensive end at 6'4" 220 pounds coming out of high school. Here are highlights from his junior year:
We need a guy like him that can fight through blocks and get into the backfield to cause havoc. Most of our D-ends are speed rushers, but Kerrigan was one of the first to add sheer brute strength that demanded a double team on every down. Ike could be that type of defender by the time he gets into a college weight room.
Ike did not have a ton of major offers. His only other BCS offer came from Iowa State. He also had an offer from Dartmouth, meaning he is a smart kid because not everyone gets an offer from an Ivy League school. We ended up winning him over Rice:
"Before my visit, I didn’t have any interest in Purdue," Ike said. "But that’s what visits are for. Now, I feel really strong about it. I liked the whole environment. The fan support is great, and they have really good facilities."
Welcome aboard, young man!

At least Danny Hope can beat Rice in something.
Welcome aboard!
Chike
Didn’t Chike play LB for most of his time at Purdue?
hate to be the bearer of bad news...
But Frazier left the program before the beginning of this year.

My favorite attribute...
The dude never have up on the plays. If the RB got by him, even by 10 yards, he would chase them down. I also saw several plays that took 7 seconds or more and the kid kept after it. I am excited about what I saw.

Who? WHat?
confused.
20 players is what I see, ranked 56th in the country according to Scout, and 10th out of 12th in the B1G. Good lord, 11 spots lower than IU, who went 1-11.
Excuse me if I don’t get overly excited.
Blame my family
I was in the Twin Cities all weekend and had to rush back to IC to work today. I only just saw T-Mill’s email so I have failed in my duty at Hammer and Rails.
Kind of like our end of game offense.

Pflugerville, TX
One of my all time favorite small-town Texas names.
A kid from a few miles south of there did pretty well for us awhile back.

The Harry Potter fanatics are all pleased
To have a player by the name of Kingsley.
I’m glad we’re going after good linemen. After all, every play starts at the line.
Reaction images? I got 'em
Senior All-American Alto Sax
I'm excited about quite a few in this class...
I wonder how this effects that other DE that was considering us… I think he was a 4-star and had it down to us and Pitt… Can’t wait to see ACTUAL O-linemen play O-Line and the D-Linemen play D!!! What a concept!

The fan support is great?
Has he attended a game with all 2,000 of us there? lol.

I have the EXACT thought!!!!
…originally committed to Rice in October but called it a "soft commitment" at the time
I also can’t help but wonder what the heck is a “soft commitment”? I mean, can you tell your bride at the altar that you are making a “soft commitment” to her? Look her in the eyes and say, “Darling, I am absolutely committed to you … softly.” I guess in hindsight, Derek Willis’ commitment to Purdue is also a soft one.
In my dictionary, a commitment is a commitment. There is no middle ground. If you know in advance it is gonna be “soft”, then it can’t be a commitment, can it?
Sorry
But I hate all the stupid marriage analogies with high school athletes committing to schools.

Maybe he went to the Rice v. Purdue game
Sounds like we had more fans than Rice did in their stadium.
Hmmmm.
and they have really good facilities
I wonder if the renovations are starting to pay off.

I'm sure compared to Rice
We were fine pre-renovation
He's not even enrolled.
I think he went the JuCo route and decided to play basketball

technically, it is my job now.
I officially work at least 24-32 hours per week on the SB Nation news desk. I also get paid to be the Indiana regional site editor. It literally is my job
