I've just emailed Morgan Burke regarding the lack of butts in the fancy premium seats that were just installed in Mackey. Don't worry, I was civil about it. I don't really care about getting a response...I just felt that he needed to see this.
Dear Mr. Burke;
This season of Purdue basketball has been excellent so far and exciting to watch. Beating Miami last night was a great win and huge for the Big Ten as we try to win the B1G/ACC Challenge.
However, the reason that I've writing to you is to express the concern that I, and many other Purdue fans, have about the premium seating options that you have set up for Mackey Arena this year. Every game this season has yielded a low turnout in those seats. It bothers me because of how it looks on TV and how it looks in person. The Paint Crew and other fans bring a large amount of the excitement to games, but the empty premium seats really take away from the atmosphere. Is there a reason for why the people that purchased these seats aren't coming to games? If you could take a few minutes to answer this email, it would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you for your time.
**UPDATE: Burke replied within an hour. His response:
The sales rate is 85% occupancy. We had a nasty snow storm in central Indiana last night which slowed attendance. There are lots of students around the court- quite frankly closer than center court but if you watched on TV they don’t always pan to the end zones behind the baskets.
I wasn't asking about the Paint Crew...and 85% occupancy sounds pretty high for a group of seats that has been almost empty for every game so far.
