Injury Track (Basketball)
Not a good start. Already Hart, Hummel, and Terone are not 100%, and we haven't even started our first practice:
John Hart has foot surgery on 7/23 and out 12-16 wks.
"(Terone) Johnson has recovered from surgery to repair a torn meniscus in the summer, but remains out after a cyst below the knee that has bothered him."
"Hummel has progressed well despite having tendinitis in the non-surgically repaired knee." (forgive me seeing the glass half-empty, but tendinitis is never a good thing, esp. when we haven't even tested the knee with the brutal B1G)
Championships begin in the off-season. That's where the biggest improvements are made. It isn't enough just to show up during regular season but it's really during the off-season where guys spent hours honing their skill that makes a championship team. Already we are seeing our team in less than full strength, and I am not too optimistic.
On the bright side, Barlow seems to be doing well (Painter said the athletic wing has been terrific in the offseason). But really, do you feel comfortable putting our season's hope on GDB? Having said that, as a junior, it's about time GDB matures and gets his act together.

If GDB can be a difference maker on both ends even better
He might have the most raw talent on this team. We need a big, slasher to the hole.
A futile crusade to prevent mass ignorance

That boy is going to go off
We just have to keep him pointed in the right direction

He needs to be a consistent rebounder.
If he doesnt average at least 8 im going to be disappointed…
No way!
If he gets 5 I’ll be very happy already. Do you know after JJ and EM, our 3rd leading rebounder last season was … the 5’9 LewJack?
Fair enough.
8 might have been a little to ambitious. 5 is probably more reasonable. But the point is he should be crashing the boards whenever he is in. And thats interesting about LewJack, but also a little unsettling and should not happen this season.
Blown out of proportion
Everyone is making such a big deal about this but he played the most minutes after JJ and Smooge. Not to mention the fact the guy has a crazy vertical and would constantly pull down boards over taller players.

No question about his jumping ability and strength
But he played just 2.3 mins more than Ryno, 5.6 mins more than Byrd, 6.7 mins more than Barlow, and 6.9 mins more than Terone – it isn’t like he is playing 10+ mins more. And even if it’s 10+ mins, a guy as big as Sandi you would expect him to be able to clean up a couple of defensive rebounds in their 3 mins or so on the court, no?
Bottom line, I think rebounding has a lot to do with heart and effort. LewJack demonstrated he has it. I’d like to see it more in our big guys this year. In particualr, I’d like to see Sandi and Lawson be our Mutumbo or Dennis Rodman.
John Hart
I saw him the other day and he didn’t have a boot or limp or anything. Obviously that doesn’t say much about his health to play basketball but still it seems like he isn’t behind schedule at least.
Off track but still in the vicintiy of Purdue basketball...
… a Gary Harris sighting tonight in Lafayette. He was at the football game pitting Harrison against Hamilton Southeastern. It was also reported that coach Matt Painter was on hand to ………watch the Raiders.
It's a tough time for Boilermaker football fans.
DO NOT
And I repeat. DO NOT mention anything dealing with basketball injuries today. I’m already on pins and needles… As per the Harrison game, as an alum, our football program is terrible. I’m sure CMP was there to watch boys against men…
How come no one mentions Terone?
Anyone sees him on campus? I’m very concerned about his injury.
Saw him with Hart actually
He also looked normal. Didn’t notice a knee brace or anything…
