1st Ever College GameDay at Purdue

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - ESPN's College GameDay, driven by State Farm, will make its first-ever appearance at Mackey Arena on Jan. 22 to shine a national spotlight on Purdue University and the Boilermakers' showdown with Big Ten rival Michigan State.

All Boilermaker fans are encouraged to come out to Mackey for the GameDay festivities to help make the experience memorable for both Purdue and ESPN. Doors will open to Paint Crew members at 7:45 a.m. ET, and the general public will begin entering at 8 a.m. ET.

Admission is free for the GameDay experience, but fans must wear black to be permitted to sit in the lower bowl. All fans, regardless of seating location, are asked to wear black.

"ESPN and State Farm do a tremendous job with College GameDay, and we've been eager for the opportunity to host the show at Mackey Arena," Purdue head coach Matt Painter said. "Hosting GameDay is an honor that has been given to some of the nation's top programs over the last six years, and we're excited to be part of that group. College GameDay will be a showcase of our program and our university, and we're looking forward to creating a memorable experience for everyone involved."

College GameDay will once again feature show host Rece Davis with analysts Jay Bilas, Digger Phelps, Hubert Davis and Bob Knight.

Early arrival at Mackey is encouraged, as the crew will start live SportsCenter hits at 9 a.m. ET leading into the new first hour of College GameDay that airs on ESPNU (10-11 a.m. ET). The show will move to ESPN for the 11 a.m.-noon hour.

The GameDay lineup also includes Saturday Primetime, a one-hour show that will commence at 8 p.m. ET as the Boilermakers prepare to square off with the Spartans at 9 p.m. ET.

As a Purdue Student that WILL be on ESPN

My Paint Crew group and I are going to make a sign but we need something catchy. We have a photo shopped picture of Digger Phelps in the Notre Dame Irish outfit…

C:\Users\ANYTIME\AppData\Local\Temp\ImageReady\TargetPreview7\leperchaun.htm

that we will put on the sign something like “Digger, Show us some love and we will forgive you” or something of that nature…seeing as how Digger NEVER wanted to come to Mackey when he was with the Irish(most believe it was because he was scared to play Keady)
And we also have the Infamous Bob Knight wearing a Purdue Sweater that we want to blow up REAL big so that coach Knight can see it nice and clear..

please tell me what you think, we may do a 2 sided one with both..

Help us out,
Any other ideas would be gladly appreciated and made known that they were with the help of Boilermaker Nation

Help make Mackey the craziest house in the nation on Saturday

How about?

“You’ve finally found the road here, Digger” – plays off Digger’s “There are no road from South Bend to West Lafayette”- line

ESPN may have beaten you to it

or they read H&R to prep for the trip to WLaf.

(see Rece Davis video)

Given that they mention the topic in this video, there’s a good chance they’ll bring it up int the broadcast tomorrow. If so, they’ll be lookin’ for something from the students that they can put on camera.

Nice shout out the The Paint Crew. You guys better be redonkulous after gettin’ hyped like this by the Worldwide Leader.

Maybe you could have Knight wear his famous "Game Face" with that Purdue sweater

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1Onfzet1xxs See clip #2.

The resolution of the above video is pretty poor, maybe you can find a better picture on campus.

Where's Gene?

Why not a poster of Bob, Gene, and Digger with the tag line of “Where’s Gene?”

of course, we know where he is…… busy clobbering ND the other night…:)

Ultimate Robbie Mention

Just saw a promo for Gameday. They’re including an “all access” feature on Hummel , his injuries and his recoveries.

Stock up the liquor cabinet, gang…and put out an extra box of kleenex.

Digger who?

I think it would be funny to completely ignore Digger. No signs or anything. F*ck him and the Irish!

by jmboiler on Jan 21, 2011 1:45 PM EST reply actions

Just saw them at the Paint Crew line

Had a memorable moment with Digger:

Me: “I’m actually from South Bend, I found the road a few years ago.”
Digger: “Oh yeah? Where did you go to school?”
Me: “Marian.”
Digger: “Oh, you couldn’t get into St. Joe?”

FYI: Marian and St. Joe are rivals as the 2 Catholic high schools in the South Bend area.

Also, an exchange b/w Jay Bilas and my friend as Jay asks about everyones major:
Pat: “[I’m in] Aerospace engineering.”
Jay Bilas: “Hey, so was I!…You know that’s bull s***, right?”

But of course, one of the bests:
Jay Bilas: “Let’s get a ‘Digger Sucks’ chant going.”

I love College GameDay.

The General

Did anyone else think it was odd that Bobby Knight wasn’t in attendence with the rest of the GameDay crew. I don’t watch GameDay that often but I was under the impression that Knight was part of the crew. Unless I missed something, I was kind of disappointed he didn’t show up. I thought it would have been really fun to have both Digger and Knight in Mackey at the same time. Like I said, maybe he had legitimate reasons for not being there but I wish he would have been there.

Knight's Obligated to be in a Gameday set for 3 places

So he decided to skip this place. I don’t blame him. He’s been at mackey before commenting on a game. I have no beef with him.

I don't blame him, but...

I think it would have made for interesting viewing. You’d think ESPN would want to generate the best possible ratings and what would be better than Bob Knight back at Mackey, besides Knight back in Bloomington.

by BoilersFan on Jan 24, 2011 11:51 AM EST up reply actions

Gene Keady and Bob Knight back at Mackey would have been better...w Digger there

But once again, I think the rankings did ok… for what it was. A pump up show before a big game.
