Mr. Seth Davis' reply to the Boiler fans' angst
"Purdue fans don't like to hear my skepticism about their team either, but the fact is the Boilermakers' four Big Ten wins have come against Michigan, Northwestern, Penn State and Iowa. I'm not saying Purdue's not good, I'm just suggesting we hold off planning their parade just yet. The Boilermakers have a big week ahead of them. They play at Minnesota on Wednesday in a huge game for the Gophers, and then they travel to West Virginia on Saturday. We'll know a lot more about how good they are after that."

He hears us. I actually agree a little bit with Mr. Davis as well, "we've beaten the teams we're supposed to beat". And while it won't change the fact that I think we can go far come March (with the right matchups of course). I would like to see how our Boilers have fared since playing Va Tech on the road (I know Valpo right now is technically our better road win but Seth doesn't know that). Let's see what we can do...

A team he ranks in the top 5
struggled to beat Michigan at Michigan, Need overtime but we blew them out on the way to a 15 point win.

His logic is faulty
I agree with you there (and I do think KU is a tad bit overrated), but I want to see how WE deal with @ Minnesota and @ West Virginia as well…just being honest

all this while super plus buying north carolina after 4 straight wins….against William & Mary, Rutgers, St. Francis (PA), and Virginia
the “functionally retarded” moniker will never fall out of favor because he will never stop giving us reasons to use it
my mother was right....no one cares what i have to say
jefferson davis' wife was hot....there i said it....and it actually feels good to finally get that out in the open
I agree with Seth
I think Seth makes a good argument. What is the rush on being recognized right now anyway. If we keep winning and playing hard, pretty soon, they cannot ignore us with any credibility. We just aren’t quite there yet with the level of the teams we have played so far. The future will tell if we deserve more recognition or if the doubters were right all along.

I completely agree
That those specific comments are pretty valid; however, less than a week ago he was saying to “sell” Purdue based on their schedule. Had he said “Hold onto” which is lame since Purdue can only play who is in front of them.
It doesn't matter
I really don’t understand why people get so bent out of shape by what some of the commentators are saying. I don’t care. I don’t read them or listen to them – I watch the games. The team has to perform. If they win these upcoming games, it will be reflected in the rankings. Hell, only two 1-loss teams are currently ranked higher. Did the polls and commentators overreact to Hummel’s injury and the Detroit loss? Maybe – but so did a lot of us. I really don’t think this team is as downgraded as many on here seem to believe.

All the more I actually agree with Mr. Davis
This was supposed to be a fanshot to calm down the “suck it seth” angst. Personally my suck it moment will be when we can prove to the media (and ourselves) that we can make it to the last weekend in early april and do it consistently. Keady never did it… hopefully Painter can..
Now back to this season…we haven’t beaten a true tourney team away from the friendly confines of Mackey (I’m still wary about Va Tech getting their act together). So I’m ok with them being skeptical. We’ll find out a lot about our Boilers in the next 2 months. Maybe this is what we need to have to get us ready for 4 games in March…

then we should get bonus points
If they docked us last year because we didn’t have a healthy Robbie then we should get a bonus for playing them while healthy.
Two words, ESPN: Patty Mills. You trumpeted his case two years ago.

it wasn't like Virginia Tech were that impressive before the injuries T-Mill
We’re talking about the epitome of the 66th seed bubble team in VaTech that we beat. So it doesn’t look like a quality win anyway (albeit on the road). And seriously, Patty Mills???? You want to be compared to St. Mary’s? ESPN drooled over them the same way they drooled over Gonzaga, George Mason, Davidson, and Butler, small schools who have cinderella stories because it makes the little guy believe. I just don’t understand the bonus points argument.
Hate to break it to you, we’re not the little guy. We’re viewed as “the big steam engine school that gets going but then get’s derailed near the end of the ride” and so they’re gonna view us that way because, they expect us to do what we do most years when we’re good in the big ten. Until we either hit the FF consistently (I’ll start with just getting there at all) or recruiting McD’s AA’s every recruiting class (highly unlikely)…. we’ll get slighted as an afterthought.
Returning back to this discussion. We didn’t get that much love with the media last year until we went into E. Lansing and Columbus and got wins at the near end of the Big Ten regular season. Why should this year be different? We’re 4-0 but we’ve beaten probably the 4 out of the 5 worst teams in the league. So yes it should be a wait and see…. (although putting us at hold may be the reasonable approach, sell makes us more $$$ in the quick).

Just saying...
ESPN talked and talked and talked about Patty Mills being the difference for St. Mary’s to make the tourney even though he was hurt. They acted like St. Mary’s was the greatest team in the history of basketball with him and any team that beat them was incredibly lucky. since we beat them healthy I want the same respect.

Well considering Penn State has beaten MSU and Illinois back to back...
the beating we just handed them, in their barn(with me in attendance) looks that much better.
So suck it Seth!
BOILER UP!! 2010-2011
"You can commit no mistake and still lose. That is not a weakness. That is life." - Jean-Luc Picard
Untested....
Hard to argue that we have been untested. That is, until
- Kansas struggled at Michigan, were we won easily
- MSU losses at PS, were we won easily
- Illinois losses at PS, "
Maybe Michigan and Penn State are not the cupcakes they were assumed to be? Other than IU and Iowa, there are no cupcakes in the Big 11.
A schedule that has allowed us to ease into the conference battle may be a reason to hold off celebrating Purdue’s greatness. But it has been a blessing to giving confidence to the “role” players.
Smith’s role? Defend fiercely and score with bombs.
Lew Jacks role? Defend like a madman, penetrate, dish or score.
They sound like BOILERMAKERS. Maybe they are not just role players. Maybe Juniors maturing into true options.

Speak softly and carry a big stick.
If Matty’s team continues this as they have so far, we will be on the laughing end in March. Until then, let’s just keeping winning
Well with Bryce-Jordan Center now being the house of horrors...
It would be nice to get this Minnesota game @ the Barn… it will allow us some breathing room on the top of Big Ten race. I’m just hoping no more freak injuries this year… let everybody be healthy this year for purdue….
