I don't get how any expert
Could know our team and know our system and say that an upset is “likely”. Possible, yes?
But, c’mon, this team is almost as good as the one that gave Florida a scare a few years ago.
No, I don't think you're an idiot. Please don't go trying to prove me wrong.
Bolts from the Blue - General Manager: It is what it isn't
And better than the IU team
that got to the National Championship in 2002.
That's cause
they don’t really get to know our team, they just watch the highlights/stats and generalize for the most part
Then they are not an expert
No, I don't think you're an idiot. Please don't go trying to prove me wrong.
Bolts from the Blue - General Manager: It is what it isn't
I'd even go to semantics about upsets
An upset, by definition, is something that is not likely. It’s all part of the talking head “I know something you don’t” stuff.
The stuff the team seems to have ignored effectively to concentrate on what to do to win.

Some Bracket definitions "Upset".
Pete Tiernan Pete Tiernan has been using stats to analyze March Madness for 19 years.
I got this stuff from a sportsline article…
Not every game in which a lower-seeded team knocks off a higher seed is an upset. Nobody’s going to fit a glass slipper on a nine seed that beats an eight in Round 1. (Actually, nine seeds are 54-46 against their higher-seeded opponents.) It’s only when you get a gap of at least four seed positions between opponents that a game has upset potential.
Surprisingly, two-thirds of the 64-team tourney games have met this condition. Of the 1,575 games that have been played in the past 25 years, 1,043 of them have pitted long shots against favorites — and the underdog has won about 20 percent of the time. That’s an average of 8.3 upsets per tourney, or roughly one in every 7.5 games. (Now you know why the 16 upsets over the past three tourneys is so surprising — it’s about three fewer than usual per dance.)
This chart shows the round-by-round results of upset games in the 64-team era. Because of the way the brackets are set up, most of the upset matchups occur in the first three rounds of the tourney. Of the 1,400 games played in the first three rounds, 1,002, or 72 percent, have been upset matchups. Picking these upsets correctly — or at least minimizing the number of victims you advance — is essential to building a winning bracket. While first-round upsets grab most of the attention, the upsets in the second and third rounds do the most damage to your bracket. Only 19 of the 105 opening-round upset victims are teams seeded one, two or three. More important, the top three seeds are a dominating 281-19 (.937) against first-round dark horses. Only about one in 16 top-three seeded teams will fall victim to an upset in Round 1. To put it another way, less than one top-three seed will lose in the first round per tourney. The last victim was third-seeded Iowa, which was humbled by 14 seed Northwestern State in 2006.
It’s a different story in the second round, where the top three seeds are just 172-52 against Cinderellas. That’s a solid .768 winning percentage, but it’s nowhere near the lockdown .937 rate of the opening round. Instead of only one in 16 teams losing, the top three seeds lose one in every four games — and about two per year. They also comprise 78 percent (52 of 67) of the second-round upsets. Last year, none of the top three seeds got upset. But in 2008, there were two high-seeded upset victims: second-seeded Duke lost to seven seed West Virginia, and two seed Georgetown lost to 10th-seeded Davidson.

I'm sober. I read it. I liked it.
It reminded me of a fan fallacy that’s out there, that even the odds we calculate in our head are fuzzy. There has to be some margin of error to say, well, this truly is an upset. Otherwise we get people getting too excited their team with a 49.5% chance won.
Also, what Wonko said below with the 8-9. Which I think the 9-seed has won 54% of the time. Which is not statistically significant, well not yet.
We’ll have something different facing us against whichever Aggies we face. We may still feel like underdogs (national media omg,) but they’ll be the lower seed. It’s part of what adds fun to being a fan as long as we don’t overdo it.

McCaffery called timeout and then swore at his players, incensed at uncharacteristic turnovers. That included one in the open court from Moore, the nation’s assist leader. McCaffery said he hadn’t seen Moore do that since he began watching him in high school in Conshohocken, Pa.
“They jumped on us,” said Ubiles, a senior accustomed to his Saints doing the jumping in first-round games. “We didn’t expect it to happen like that.”

Zoubek cleans the o-boards when he’s in. He really did a number on us in Mackey. The Plumlees are young. Duke seems to go 7-8 deep with a big 3 on the floor almost all the time. No really terrifying center but a lot of height. Not sure who’d guard Singler.

having had to watch far too much dook this year
they rotate in bigs like they’ve got a lifetime supply. Zoubek fouls out and one of the Plumlees comes in and goes and gets hot. Keeping JJ out of foul trouble could be tough. Post Game Presser # 1
opening statement from Coach Painter and then
we’ll take questions for the student-athletes.
COACH PAINTER: I thought the key to
the game was how we came out in the second half,
the first five minutes. Keaton Grant made some
huge 3’s for us to get us going. We got stops, we
got steals that led to points on the offensive end
and really just had a lot of energy. That’s what we
have talked about starting games and starting the
second half if we can come out with energy and let
our defense kind of establish the tempo of the
game, it’s really helped us this year.
And I was proud of our guys and we have
been through it in very similar to Siena in terms of
losing a very good player. They lost a very good
player and they’re a little bit short handed, but
obviously that’s part of the game. But they’re a
good team. They are a very good team.
I’m just proud of our guys being able to get
this first round win.
Post Game Presser # 2
THE MODERATOR: Take questions for
the student-athletes.
Q. Lewis, you’re hurt, right?
LEWIS JACKSON: I’m all right.
Q. Can you just talk about it?
Obviously you seemed like you were really the
difference maker there. The zone defense you
did what you wanted and you really got the
guys going.
LEWIS JACKSON: Coach told me to be
aggressive. My teammates trusted me. I knocked
down a jump shot and opened up some gaps
JaJuan to get the ball and he hit some open shots.
Keaton made some open shots. And everybody
on the team just stepped up when it was time.
Q. Coach, what adjustments was Chris
Kramer able to do in the second half especially
against Alex Franklin?
COACH PAINTER: Obviously we were
concerned with Franklin with his size and his ability
to play at the rim. We thought in the first half we
didn’t do a good job with him when he had the ball
in the perimeter. We really wanted to pressure him
and make him handle the basketball and try to
beat one of our guards. Keaton guarded him at
times, beat him off the bounce. But just try to get
into him and pressure him because we knew we
had a mismatch at certain times when he got the
ball off the rim with his strength and his ability to
score. So we wanted to make sure we had a
mismatch when he was on the perimeter and then
just trying to pressure him into going a little bit
faster and we thought we did a good job of that.
Presser # 3
Q. How aware were you guys that you
guys were a popular pick to be upset in the first
round because everybody was saying, well
since the Hummel injury they got no shot.
KEATON GRANT: We were very aware.
You can’t help to see other games especially on
ESPN and them when they do the bracketology on
CBS and other teams picking against you and the
analysts picking against you and you got the
President picking against you, so it’s a different
thing, but we were very aware. So we just use that
as motivation.
LEWIS JACKSON: I think the biggest
thing was for me when President Obama just said
he kind of felt sorry for us, just everything we been
through and with this team and the adversity we
face. Guys don’t want people to feel sorry for us,
we want to prove that we still have a lot of talent
and can make a big run in the tournament. I think
that was the biggest thing for me.
JAJUAN JOHNSON: We were definitely
aware of all the different picks and all that. But it’s
pretty much nothing you can really do about it, just
go out there and play and that’s what we did
tonight. And we were fortunate enough to get the
win.
Thanks for this, and good from the players
Having someone feel sorry for you isn’t enough and doesn’t help you do what you want—I’d hoped they’d feel that, and execute on it, and they did.

Last Presser (from SI)
Q. Lewis, I know you hadn’t probably
shot as many free throws this year as you
wanted to. You stepped up there with a little
more than a minute to go and miss the first and
you went back with 49 seconds to go. That
was an ugly one but they all count don’t they?
Talk to me about those two free throws you
had.
LEWIS JACKSON: Like you said, the first
one it was ugly but I mean no matter how it drops,
it drops. It’s March Madness time and crazy things
happen. So I’m just glad it went in. Once you see
the first one go through the net, the second one I
stepped up there with confidence the whole time
the coaching staff and my teammates had
confidence and told me to be ready because they
would probably foul me again and so just knock it
down.
Thanks for the presser notes

The problem was that there was a clusterf*ck in the top half of the conference and the selection committee did acid before sorting it out. VT definitely should have gotten the nod over GT. but you repeat with the same company for several sessions, and go during the academic semester. Usually you alternate semesters (work→school→ work→school) for 3 or 5 pairs of work-school. Good way to get a bunch of experience, most companies pay pretty well too.
