Robbie is gone, the two teams in front of us in the rankings just lost by eight points or more, one lost to a team we have already beaten (and that has beaten the other team in front of us), the entire country is doubting us, and a win all but secures our first regular season Big Ten title in 14 years. If there is truly a God out there, we win today by double digits and make a statement that, in fact, we are not dead motherf*****s.

we’re a better team than MSU with or without hummel. hummel isn’t the reason why MSU has averaged 47 points a game in mackey the last two years. hummel isn’t the reason why we’ve beat them by over 16 points a game the last two trips to mackey. we are a team and are more than one player.

As a team we should have wanted to win this. Not just for the title, not just for the 1 seed, but for Robbie and the fans who stood with this team. I expected more gentlemen.

In the motion offense. Everyone was slow, sluggish. So many shots were halfway down and came back out, at least 5 that I remember but they were mostly from 1 on 1 action. Just bad.

We know the team got a lot of stuff right after the NU game—that showed they gave a damn but just lost their way a bit. They are smart enough. @PSU will be no gimme. Fix the rebounding, though.

…which means we’ll probably meet MSU again. But after today, I’m not counting on anything. Disappointing to say the least.

30 wins looks very borderline then

26 if we can win IU/PSU. 1 win in BTT but we may have problems again with MSU. Then we’d need an elite eight run.

Still a loss similar to this up in East Lansing was a good catalyst last year…team really just relaxed and had fun after that.

I NEED HELP!

mich st. had more rebounds than we had points.

i have questions.

1. Why is Keaton Grant not jacking up open threes?
2. Why is Lew-Jack playing so much when we clearly need another shooter on the floor?
3. Why is Ryne Smith coming in for the first time with 9:00 left in the game?
4. Why are we trying to slow the game down when we have one center and 4 guards?
5. Why did it seem like our only good shots were in transition?
6. Why did Bade play so much in the first half and not in the second?
7. Why have we played the same man-to-man defense for 5 years?

If someone can any or all 7 questions I will be very happy. I can’t figure out any of them.

JJ and Bade were on the floor at the same time in the first half. It was partially the fouls, but also to combat our lack of rebounding that was already taking place in the first half. He did make the MSU guys work a little harder inside IMO.

And about the defense, it has worked, but we need more than just “work” right now. Our offensive sets are so bad that we need more traps, double-teams, and full court pressure defenses so that we can get more transition looks.

Today, shooting 30% getting killed on the offensive boards was the problem.

This team is nothing without Hummel. The half-court offense was an absolute embarrassment. I don’t even have words to describe the rebounding. Pathetic.

That Spartan team isn’t even good.

Someone has got to step up and hit the jumpshot

With Hummel out I don’t know if Painter can keep 2 out of Kramer/Barlow/Lewjack in the game at the same time. Michigan St didn’t even bother to defend them out at the 3pt line. With 2 players out there that were not a threat to shoot, MSU keyed in on Moore and Johnson and forced tough shots out of them the whole game. If this team is going to make a run in either tournament one of the jump shooters (Smith/Byrd/Hart) has got to step up.
