Unbelievable
I am crushed right now. Absolutely crushed. I wish Robbie well in his recovery, and I wish his teammates well going forward. Our dream season is probably gone, but we can still have a good season.

sick to my stomach
I can’t even watch the football game right now……the only silver lining is, it seems like we have an even deeper team than we did last year.
Robbie, we all hate this for you….you’re one hell of a player, and an even better person. Keep everyone else’s heads on straight.
We can still do this!
Hoosier by birth, Boilermaker by the Grace of God!
Blame TMill
I’m blaming TMill for the “We pop ACL’s like douchebags pop collars” comment. Talk about a jinx…
Blame the water in West Lafayette
This seems like an alarming number of torn ACLs for male athletes.

I'm blaming him for the "the 2011 National Championship is ours" comments
A bit of a jinx if you ask me. If nothing else, a little bit overconfident.
are you serious???
it may have been overconfident but it wasn’t something that was an obvious goal for us. Not saying it isn’t now… we can still be that team… but we now need much more players to step up and invest like they haven’t before into this goal. But to blame that statement is rather ridiculous honestly.
All that said, I hope you’re joking :)
Yes, I was joking.
I realize it wasn’t very clear. Obviously, I’m not blaming him for Robbie’s ACL tear. I do think that saying that our winning the national championship is a forgone conclusion, before the season even starts, is a little bit foolish. I realize that we had all the pieces to do that and were clearly a top 2 or 3 team, but as seen today, things happen. You can’t predict what will happen over the course of the season. That said, I still think we have a great team, and still have a shot at reaching that goal.
I need too.....
see JackAss 3 again to ease the pain.

I vote that we get a new specialist...
Dr. Shelbourne who operates on all of our ACL injuries is an IU guy. hmmmm… food for thought
POTFH
No More Minnesota Games, Please
Purdue needs to petition the Big 10 offices to not have Minnesota on any schedule for the near-term future. Bad things seem to happen when we play them.
Trying to be positive…if this had to happen, I’m glad it happened now, and not farther into the season. Just imagine if Johnson and Moore had stayed in the NBA Draft. And, with our not-so-difficult non-conference schedule, this will give our freshman class a great opportunity to really step it up.
I’m not giving up on Houston. This team has time to adjust and the players have no excuses not to be ready this season (unlike the Feb injury). Hummel goes down, and the sports writers that were high on us this year will go back to leaving us for dead. It’s time to play with a chip on our shoulder and show the nation how deep we really are.

No Robbie....NO problem
Im saddened by Robbie getting hurt again…but I’m even more saddened by so many Boiler fans giving up on the season already….holy crap: bigger better JJ, same great Moore, experienced backups….healthy Lew Jack…great Frosh….we’re still going to Houston!
It all depends on 3 things
1.) Will Lew Jack be able to be that SPECIAL point guard that we need him to be to give you a chance to get more points
2.) Killer B’s- Bade, Barlow, Byrd – time for you to be better than ever before. Something tell me that Barlow and Byrd will be the replacements to Grant and Kramer. Bade can afford to be a little more aggressive and hopefully have a better chip on the shoulder to help out JJ
3.) Incomers- the Johnson boys, Carroll, and Marcius. They need to produce early… not at a level as Baby Boilers (but I WILL TAKE THAT) but they can’t be like ’08 and ’09 freshmen in terms of not scoring. AJ and TJ looks like they can fill up the cup… Marcius and Carroll needs to just get boards and putbacks and be quick to the ball…
So we’ll find out what a Boilermaker is again… so let’s Boiler UP… or Maker All…. or how about ALL ’Makers Boiler UP!!! (yeah I got nothing)
These players won't feel sorry for themselves
And I think Robbie Hummel seems like the sort of person that would be happy in life, torn ACL or no…but this is a reminder never to take things for granted I’m not counting on him playing a game, not because he won’t work hard in rehab, but because he needs that knee for, well, life stuff.
Worst case, he gets a head start on a coaching career if he wants one. I think any of the big 3 would be good at it.

This just means...
A) that other players will have to step-up and take a bigger role, and B) Robbie will be back for the 2011-2012 season. I just hope he can recover and return to pre-injury form. He might be able to bench 500 pounds by the time he comes back, since all he does during rehab is lift weights and work-out.
Last year after Robbie went down, we missed his rebounding. I think we’ll have plenty of guys who can score, we just need Bade, Carroll, JJ, and maybe Marcius to crash the glass. We’ll be fine. Still a top-10 team, easily.

Cursed....
Apparently this team is just not allowed to have a championship season. Other guys are going to have to step up but Robbie is such an integral part of this team. This is so heart breaking, especially for Robbie.
Here’s to hoping everyone steps up.
Maybe if we are lucky Robbie can come back in time for the tournament.

Robbie's been already stated that he's rehabbing for 2011-2012 season
more time to get that knee as strong as it could be. And honestly I don’t blame him. it’s been a tough year for him… maybe this is a blessing in disguise
Yeah you are right, since he didn’t redshirt he can come back the following year and play. Maybe that will help with the transition after losing Etwan and JJ but still…this was supposed to be Purdue’s season.

Funny thing I've learned throughout life
Nothing is given or supposed to be…and nothing is never… you still have to make it yours. So we’ll see what happens in 2010-2011. Smooge and JJ… this is your stage to show why you guys are ALSO leaders on this team. I expect smooge to take that role, along with Lew Jack….no use crying about it now
No curse
Please, just say no to saying we’re cursed. Curses are just a fancy word for excuses. Leave that crap in Cubbie land.

So does this mean we're done trying to go after Chasson Randle correct?
I mean the big 3’s schollies were gonna go to Hale, Lawson, and the third committ (Randle)…. so we’re done with trying to get after Randle

Hopefully Matty P isn’t a one trick pony and has some coaching and scheming up his sleeves. He has recruited these kids and I think the Purdue Marker All Basketball team will be fine!

Andy Katz has already bailed
His preseason rankings dropped Purdue from #2 to #23. Time to play the underdog again. Let everyone else doubt. Let us believe.

+1
On letting the peopled doubt….we still have the whole practice weeks… let alone a not too daunting pre-conference season to get roles figured out… this is still going to be a fun season…
We needed a big 2010 for recruiting?
Why is it that the top kids spurn us left and right?
adverstiy makes us stronger
… all the team will do is band together and show that its the Purdue Boilermakers and not just the Big Three. We can and will Boiler UP.
To have it happen this quickly
suggests that it was never going to be right – he never would have made it through the season. Really is best to happen now so the team can plan and practice without him. Just a shame those three won’t be able to go out together.
This is sick
Good job football btw. I think I might have had a mild heart attack when I heard the news while watching the football game. Seriously. Really really bad news. But, all in all, I have convinced myself that anything is still possible. Terone Johnson has to be Big Ten Freshman of the Year, period, and JJ has to be First Team All American. Then next year, we’ll be good again with Hummell as the 9th year senior. Does anyone know if Donnie Hale can come in now? Probably not…anyways, Marcius and Carrol just became realllllly important.
theres still a chance!
now we really need that time machine to get working!
and now minnesota owes us 2 final fours…

:( :( :( :( :(
That's a pretty apt response.
I heard about it at the football game from a girl in front of me, and my first response was “you’re joking right.” When it was confirmed by a few other sources, I just sort of stared blankly at the football field for the next couple of drives or so, in shock.
