Boilermakings for 7/27

As usual, we begin the week with a quick Boilermakings, especially with Big Ten Media Days going on up in Chicago. I had the opportunity to head up to this, but turned it down because, well, I am an idiot. Several quality Big Ten blogs are in attendance that are based in the Chicago area, such as Maize N' Brew, Bucky's 5th Quarter, and Hail to the Orange. They are providing fantastic first-hand coverage, as well as our own GBI.

Katie Douglas scores 11 in WNBA ALL-Star game - Douglas was named as a starter for this year's game while playing for the home town Indiana Fever. She is averaging 15 points per game as the Fever sit in first place halfway through the season. Their 12-4 record is the best in the WNBA.

Football lands safety commit from Florida - I'll talk about this more in a welcome to the Fold post later today, but Florida Safety E.J. Johnson, one of our top targets, committed last night.

David Boudia medals... again - Sophomore diver David Boudia has some more hardware after earning a silver medal in synchronized platform diving at the World Championships in Rome. The young man is making quite a career for himself and is bringing tons of notoriety to our growing diving program.

Carl Landry's basketball camp a huge hit - Current Houston Rockets player Carl Landry recently came back to West Lafayette and hosted a free basketball camp to huge success at West Lafayette High School. Landry is quickly becoming one of the NBA's good guys and a fine role model. I kind of view him as the last great contribution from Gene Keady and first from Matt Painter since he bridged both era's It is also very nice to see he is having no ill effects from that freighting shooting incident earlier this year.

Adam Rittenberg predicts playing time for TerBush, long season - ESPN's Big Ten blogger Adam Rittenberg weighed in with his preseason football prediction last week. He thinks the difficult schedule will make for a bowl-less season and that Caleb TerBush will see significant playing time. I say bring it on. Adam will be stopping by later this week to chat with me in the first every Hammer & Rails podcast, in which we'll discuss things in more detail.

Will Kory Sheets make it? - The 49ers blog Niners Nation has been high on Mr. Sheets since he signed as an undrafted free agent. They predict he will make the 53 man roster with a much more in depth article found here.

That's all for now. Enjoy media day on the Big Ten Network!
