Valparaiso at Purdue: Robbie Hummel faces his hometown team

Valparaiso Crusaders at Purdue Boilermakers, Dec 9, 2009 7:00 PM EST

Robbie Hummel admitted that it is weird for him to face his hometown team in the Crusaders. It will be weird for me to cheer against former Kokomo Wildkat Brandon Wood. Just weirdness all-around tonight. Here is to Purdue crusing to 8-0 before a tough game at Alabama this weekend.

Buckets hits a three in last year's Valpo game.

Great range by JJ on those two jumpers

When I talked to my parents on their way into Mackey, I told them I hoped the game was boring and uneventful. Here’s hoping the alums of the J&C Hoops Classic get a lot of minutes.

Thanks

Seemed appropriate on one of the days when the Kats make an appearance, need to make sure the Lafayette area gets its love.

JJ with a sweet HORSE shot

Throught the bottom of the basket, above the rim, off the backboard, off the back of the rim and back down through the net.

Just the way we drew it up.

BARLOW!

Beautiful offensive board and a no look pass to JJ for an easy two.

Barlow already looks considerably better than 3 weeks ago.

by dbaltman on Dec 9, 2009 7:17 PM EST reply actions

On Barlow (again)

I’ve got to think he has at least some range from 3. I know he’s more of a driver but I would like to see him take one or two of these very open looks they are giving him.

by dbaltman on Dec 9, 2009 7:32 PM EST reply actions

Bob Ford

On Bird: “He’s not quite the defensive player that Kramer is.”

Chris Kramer on Bird: “Defense is something he has to work at. In high school, he didn’t play a lick of defense. I watched him play, and he played no defense.”

Comparisons

MSU beat these guys by 30. I would like to beat that mark.

by ElijahJones22 on Dec 9, 2009 8:22 PM EST reply actions

Fair point, but

I kinda think once it gets over 20 (or maybe 25) point differential becomes less important. There are too many variables like substitutions that make it difficult to take much from a 30 point win versus at 20 point win.

by dbaltman on Dec 9, 2009 8:27 PM EST up reply actions

I agree

It’s more of a selfish thing. I strongly dislike that MSU team.

by ElijahJones22 on Dec 9, 2009 8:30 PM EST up reply actions

I'm all about being selfish

And I want to see us win big, but I’m more interested in developing the young guys.

Also, its tough for me to dislike a Tom Izzo team.

UNC struggled with them

Only won by 11 at home.

Sorry I left in the middle, guys

The Mother-in-law’s birthday is this weekend and we had to get a card. Since she only speaks Spanish that limits the places we can go.

Hasn’t hit 10 degrees today and the wind chill hasn’t hit 0. Wondering why this seemed like a good choice.

He looks healthy

Although he does seem to be getting lost in the offense. Not sure if it is because Kramer has been more aggressive with his shot…

by dbaltman on Dec 9, 2009 8:37 PM EST up reply actions

no problem with that

It all about making everyone a weapon. if teams have to worry about Kramer that makes everyone else more dangerous

Gettin that stroke back

Hopefully he keeps shooting it so he can be a more consistent force once conference play and WVU roll around

by ElijahJones22 on Dec 9, 2009 8:38 PM EST up reply actions

If he gets his shoulders squared

And his feet reasonably set, his range is almost limitless.

Hummel

Everyone just lost a year off their life seeing him land like that in garbage time.

But my guess would be Bubba Day.

Not trying to pick nits, but he looks slow tonight.

by dbaltman on Dec 9, 2009 8:50 PM EST reply actions

Although

He looked pretty quick on the drop step.

Plus he’s left handed, so that will get him some irrational love from me.

I have been thouroughly unimpressed with Bade so far this year.
