Really like the way our defense looks tonight

We’re playing them close but not collapsing too much or over-pursuing and giving up open shots.

We need to get a few more of those quick scores if they try to go full court D again. Then we can slow down the rhythm again and get back to our pace.

From his twitter page

Terrible execution by UT on the last possession. Maze waited too long to initiate, then couldn’t create anything. GREAT win for Boilers.

That you, Izzo? RT @FromTheBarn: @sethdavishoops Let’s see if Chris Kramer can defend when he has to play by the rules.

Vols for sure. RT @JacksonCates: @SethDavisHoops Who did you pick to win this game, UT or Purdue?

by H Dot Jones on Nov 23, 2009 11:20 PM EST reply actions

Not that bad

A tad overconfident with his prediction, but the middle one is a re-tweet of some snark that someone sent him, and he has a point on the last one. UT did hold the ball too long before getting into their offense for htat last shot. Plus he gives props for a big win.

by BoilerPhil on Nov 23, 2009 11:28 PM EST up reply actions

I'm still annoyed with him for the #12 ranking or whatever.

But hopefully he pulls the stick out of his ass next week. Those tweets aren’t that bad. No idea who that is in the middle, but he’s dumb. Tonight was the strictest possible interpretation of the rules by the refs and Kramer held Smith in check.

by rcpratt on Nov 23, 2009 11:32 PM EST up reply actions

#12 ranking

when was that…. I feel like no team takes us seriously… which is fine… we don’t have the true blockbuster talent that the sportscasters drool over. But we’re 6th in the nation for a reason… but let’s shock the likes of Davis…Digger… Gottleib etc….

by H Dot Jones on Nov 23, 2009 11:55 PM EST reply actions

Much better game from Barlow. Still obviously some freshmen issues, but a better effort and some better execution.
I like Wohlford, he’ll play some quality minutes this year. He badgers his man without even touching him.
A subpar game for Smith. Some decent D, but out of control at times.
Bade settled in with the extra minutes. Can’t blame him for the fouls, that’s a tough situation for a freshmen. Hopefully he’ll learn from it. He was sucking wind at times. Gotta hit that treadmill in the offseason kid.
Byrd was a non-factor and that was probably on purpose.

Nice to see a win with the big man in foul trouble. It’s a good lesson for him. Mama said there’d be days like this.

Wisdom can not be cultivated through ignorance of information.

by Wonko on Nov 24, 2009 1:47 AM EST reply actions

I think with LewJack and Marcius on our bench...

….we blow Tennessee out. We’re throwing some people out there (Bade, Wohlford, even Barlow to a degree) that I don’t think we see much of if we have those 2 guys with us.

Having said that, it was a huge win. And the experience that some of these younger players are getting can only help further down the road.

Having Marcius back would have helped last night, but Jujuan absolutely needs to get better at staying in the game. You don’t take a charge with 4 fouls.

I can’t count how many times Bade was just lost on defensive switches. I realize he’s young and he’s playing in a big game, but really is very raw. Hope he develops quickly.

I’ve tempered expectations on Barlow with the increased level of competition. He had some flashes of brilliance, but pretty much balanced them out with some dumb decisions.

I’d love to see Smooge have more games like that. No one could guard him last night.

Keaton needs to pick it up. Not a good tourney for him, offensively. He’s still nails on the defensive end.

That sliding steal by Kramer was, in a word, amazing.

by carmen_fanzone on Nov 24, 2009 8:31 AM EST reply actions

Agree on all those

One caveat with Barlow. “Balancing out” was much better than what I saw against St. Joe’s. That’s improvement in my books.

Wisdom can not be cultivated through ignorance of information.

by Wonko on Nov 24, 2009 3:50 PM EST up reply actions

Oh, I know...

After the first couple of games, I thought “Wow, this kid gets it from the start. What a weapon he’s going to be off our bench.” Then he had a couple of so-so games. Then he looked horrible against St Joe’s.

So I guess I was getting excited too early. He’s learning. I’m sure he’ll be a better player by BT season. He’s just not consistent, which most freshman suffer from.
