Paradise Jam Round 2 Open Thread: St. Joseph's

St. Joseph's Hawks at Purdue Boilermakers, Nov 22, 2009 8:30 PM EST

Let's hope everything goes better with this one now. We might even have a live gametracker for stats and such. St. Joseph's should be an easier game than Boston College, but they did beat the Eagles, so who knows. We were supposed to have an easy time with South Dakota State and look what happened. Special thanks to DelawareBoiler for the fanpost on St. Joe's last night.

Tennessee hangs on Vs. DePaul

should be interesting after the way Vols fans embarrassed themselves at GBI this weekend.

It's hard to tell without actually seeing the game

but based on the box score, rebounding sounds like a plus so far—we’ve allowed them zero offensive boards.

Just have to say

one more thing about the rebounding:

We rebounded 30% of our misses. St. Joe’s got only 7% of theirs. I’m particularly impressed with that second number. It’s better than we were able to muster in any game of the 08-09 season. Moreover, JaJuan went into double figures for rebounding again. As long as Robbie and E’Twaun can keep getting theirs, that will go a long way to fixing our rebounding ills.

by septimusharding on Nov 22, 2009 11:22 PM EST reply actions

Some impressions

I basically watched this game wondering how our reserves would hold up. Obviously, we know what we have in Grant, Moore, Hummel, Johnson and Kramer (although it looks like they need some time to get their shooting touches, except for Johnson, he’s a stud). Here’s what I thought:

Wohlford and Smith were like two different players from last year. I would say that even if they hadn’t hit those buckets. Their effort and execution on defense and passing were way beyond what I had seen from them previous. They played with confidence like they belonged and they even somehow looked more athletic out there. There both still small (that’s not gonna change), but they looked better.
I liked Byrd’s effort level out there. He looks like a hard-nosed basketball player, but he’s a little raw and is going to need some refinement before he can be counted on.
Bade was sloppy and out of control. Lots of work to be done there.
I was not happy with Barlow. His body language was awful out there and he really got down on himself after making a bad play. He didn’t do much until the end of the game where he showed off some ball handling skills and had one good play where he got an offensive board and turned it into an assist. Talent might be there, but it almost seemed like was intentionally keeping it hidden early on.
The rest of the guys weren’t in long enough to leave an impression.

Wisdom can not be cultivated through ignorance of information.
