Bucket Week Boilermakings
Women's basketball season starts off well - Graduation and injuries have expectations down a bit after last season's Elite 8 run, but the ladies started off with a dominant 70-37 win over Western Illinois. Brittany Rayburn led the boilers with 23, nearly outscoring the Leathernecks by herself.
Caden Shields goes to NCAA championships - I know we're not a strong Cross Country program, but junior Caden Shields became the first boiler to qualify for the NCAA championships since since 1987. He earned an at large bid, just one of two nationally.
Volleyball all but done - It was a rough weekend all around as the women's volleyball team dropped matches to Michigan (3-2) and Michigan State (3-0) on the road. The loss to Michigan State dropped them to 12-15 overall and just 4-12 in the Big Ten. #1 Penn State is up next and the Nittany Lions have not lost a match in almost three years.
Women's Soccer out of NCAA's - MAC champion Central Michigan dropped the Boilers 2-0 in the first round of the NCAA Tournament this weekend. It was a disappointing finish for a team that was once ranked in the top 10 nationally this year and had a win over #6 Texas A&M.
Kyle Orton injured - Too bad, as he was playing well until an injury forced him out of yesterday's Broncos-Redskins game. He had to be replaced by member of the lucky sperm club Chris Simms, who is only in the NFL because his dad was Phil Simms.
Joe Lunardi, Dick Vitale, and Jay Williams are awesome - All three picked Purdue for the Final Four this year. No word on Digger's picks, but I am sure he wants the Big Ten relegated to Division III and both Pittsburgh and Uconn will meet int eh title game after toughing out wins over powers Wofford and William & Mary, respectively, Friday night.
Iowa loses season opener to prevent perfect Big Ten weekend - at home... to Texas... -San Antonio... by 12 points... breaking a 46 game winning streak in home openers. Ouch.
After all, they will be keeping score there - Tim Cary says to stop talking about the Final Four and says that if we get there, let's just win the whole damn thing. I concur, even though it would likely put my time of death around 10:30pm on Monday, April 5, 2010.
Someone bought a Defense Lives Here shirt - A sincere thank you is deserved. That is the first sale other than the one I bought for myself. If anyone else wants one for basketball season they are available here.

Wow, why the hate for Chris Simms?
He was a pretty good college QB the last 2 years at Texas and there are obviously worse QB’s holding onto a clipboard in the NFL right now. To say nothing of what he’s come back from, injury-wise.
“Only reason he’s in the NFL is because he’s Phil Simms’ son?” A bit of a stretch there.
Nobody cares about your fantasy baseball team
Two words:
Major Applewhite. He was the much better QB at Texas, yet constantly was benched only to clean up Simms’ mess. he never even got a whiff of the NFL.

I didn't realize you were a Texas fan, too.
Pretty obscure reason to hate on a guy…..

Not really a Texas fan
I just don’t like it when clearly more talented people are passed over because someone else’s daddy was a big shot.

Bummer to see volleyball struggling
as they were probably my favorite non-basketball sport to attend. Then again, maybe it was smart for me to coincide my own graduation with that of Stephanie Lynch, Kelli Miller, and Danita Merlau. Hopefully they’re back in form next season.
