Purdue-Cal State Northridge game thread

Cal. St.-Northridge Matadors at Purdue Boilermakers, Nov 13, 2009 7:00 PM EST

And so it begins! I'm covering a high school football regional tonight, so I won't be able to watch. Here is the open thread to follow along for those that are. I'll post a brief wrap in the morning before heading up for the football game. It's a busy blogging weekend, but I wouldn't have it any other way.

Some might ask what my reasonable expections are for this season. I will only say this: I live in Indianapolis. We visit Miami to see some baseball every spring, normally in early April. The Canes have two home series in April, one the first weekend and one the third. I penciled in our trip for the 3rd weekend because I could not be in Miami with the Final Four being here in Indy. I want to be busy that weekend, as I am attending regardless of cost if the Boilers make it.

Those are my expectations, as I am keeping a weekend free five months from now.

Show up for the Seniors tomorrow. Beat State!

Time to Boiler the F up!

I thought it be all warm and shitty, but it just tasted like normal beer. It was still cold.

Okay, so I do have access

Limited, at least. God bless wireless. What’s going on?

from the gamecast, here's what I can tell

Up 55-20 at halftime. About 5 minutes in the Boilers were up 28-3. Lots of guys seeing playing time

Nobody touches the Shaqtus.

Byrd, Smith, Barlow and Bade have all scored. Wohlford has been in but hasn’t taken a shot.

Nobody touches the Shaqtus.

by doublegoldandblack on Nov 13, 2009 8:10 PM EST up reply actions

We came out absolutely on fire, got up big and started rotating in the young guys. The shooting percentage has dropped off and we’ve had a few turnovers.

Also

Take a look at the Big East- Nova only up by 1 at halftime against Fairleigh Dickinson.

We really haven't established the paint yet...

it would be nice to get Bade and JJ more touches down in the paint… granted I know that’s not our MO… but I want us not to be so dependent on outside shots….

Honestly

It would be nice to have Lew Jack… penetrating the Defense and dishing off to JJ in the paint

by contrast

my game is 0-0 at the half

I’m not sure I remember what 30 (or 24) minutes of shutout football looks like.

by doublegoldandblack on Nov 13, 2009 8:30 PM EST up reply actions

It's actually good defense

Some pretty good stops inside the 30. Since Class A teams rarely have kickers there are no field goal attempts.

I guess that's not entirely true.

I watched 60 minutes of it 2 weeks ago, but I’ve done my best to forget it ever happened.

Back to the Boilers

Up 76-44, at what point do the starters get pulled to avoid injury or do we let them play it out to work out some kinks?

Very impressed w/ Barlow tonight...

Highlight reel dunk, some nice passes, has a nice hesitation move, handles the ball well. With his size, he definitely poses some match up problems.

Nice balance...

Hummel 17, JJ 15, Byrd 13, Kramer 11, Smooge 9…

9-20 from 3
23 assist, 14 turnovers

Really, REALLY glad

we didn’t redshirt Barlow, kid looks great. had an NBA drive-n-dunk tonight that was just out of the blue awesomeness.

Starters came out and just DOMINATED the beginning of the game. Very good to see.
